So excited to be at The Road To The Horse!

We’re honored and excited to welcome Hold The Reins as a sponsor of Road to the Horse 2027! 🇺🇸🐴

Hold the Reins is doing incredible work supporting our veterans through the healing power of horses, and we couldn’t be prouder to partner with an organization that shares so many of the values we hold close.

We believe in the power of horses to change lives, and together, we’re excited to support those who have served our country—one horse, one rider, and one life at a time.

Thank you, Hold the Reins, for becoming part of the Road to the Horse family. We’re grateful to have you with us and look forward to making a difference together! ❤️

David shared that as a child, he spent time on his grandfather’s farm, riding his work horses. After his injury, he knew returning to horses would be an important part of his healing, a way to reconnect with a sense of wellness and wholeness.

We started by riding ba****ck. Without a saddle, there is direct connection.  The horse can feel the rider’s energy, and the rider can feel the horse’s movement and response. Ba****ck riding requires full attention.  There is no barrier, no buffer. When a saddle is present, it can be easier to disconnect or to miss what the horse is communicating.

Here, awareness becomes essential. Horse and human move together.

It only gets better, David is a special person...

The experience at Hold the Reins is adaptable to each participant’s individual needs.

In this case, David has a prosthesis so a loop was added to the lead rope. This adjustment allowed him to independently lead the horse, maintaining control while honoring his mobility.

So it begins...

Upon arrival, he was greeted by warm smiles. Two horses. Two SEALs.

No pressure. Just presence.

The ground was covered with snow and ice. The scene around him was quiet and still. The frigid air stung his face as he entered the arena.

But he made it here and that is what matters. He took the first step.
