๐Ÿšจ Laminitis cases are on the rise!! ๐Ÿšจ

With the change in season, recent rains, and warm weather, the sugar content in grass is spiking! Not just PPID patients are at risk this fall! Please stay on alert for early signs (reluctance to walk, shifting weight, bounding pulses in the lower limbs), be conservative about high carbohydrate feeds, and monitor over weight horses carefully. The earlier the intervention, the higher success of saving the hoof from long term damage!

I'm sure everyone has seen the temperature highs for this week! Triple digits are no joke. Make sure you are staying cool and hydrated and monitor your animals in this heat as well.

๐Ÿถ Remember brachycephalic breeds (pugs, frenchies, and bull dogs are more sensitive and can easily develop heat stroke!)
๐Ÿ•โ€๐ŸฆบWalk pets early in the morning and late in the evenings and no heavy play outside to prevent exhaustion.
๐Ÿ’ง Always provide fresh, cool water to both pets and livestock to ensure they are staying hydrated.
๐ŸŽAvoid working livestock in the hottest parts of the day to prevent heat exhaustion.
โ€ผ๏ธIf you feel like your pet has experienced heat exhaustion, contact your veterinarian or your local emergency veterinarian if after normal business hours.
