Wildfire Season is coming. Simple, low-cost changes can help reduce the impacts of wildfire on your home and neighborhood. Here are 10 ways to increase your wildfire readiness.
Take action to improve your home’s survivability:
🔥REMOVE leaves, pine needles, and other flammable materials from your roof, gutter, and deck.
🔥SCREEN the area below your deck or porch with ⅛” wire mesh to keep flammable material from accumulating underneath.
🔥COVER exterior attic and soffit vents with ⅛” mesh to keep flammable material out.
🔥ENCLOSE eaves to prevent embers from entering your home.
🔥INSPECT shingles or roof tiles and REPLACE anything that is missing or damaged. COVER the ends of tiles with bird stops or cement to prevent embers from penetrating your roof.
Be Wildfire Wise when it comes to landscaping
🔥REMOVE dead vegetation and any other materials within five feet of your home, known as the Home Ignition Zone (HIZ)
🔥KEEP your lawn properly hydrated. If it’s brown, mow it down.
🔥PRUNE trees so that the lowest limbs are 6 to 10 feet above the ground.
🔥MOVE construction materials, woodpiles, and trash at least 30 feet from your home.
🔥DISPOSE of any cut vegetation or grass cuttings.
