In a series of events I’m still trying to fully understand, I officially have another senior dog added to my pack! I almost adopted Loki three years ago but had to leave him with his original owner due to work-related stress and health issues.

He and I and the rest of my pups are sooooooo happy to have him reunited with our family!! His care has declined severely since the last time I saw him and the vet and I are working through a list of concerns for improving his health. But his spirit is as joyful and lively as ever and we are enjoying our time together immensely 🥰

I will be posting more about this special boy soon, but for now, enjoy these pictures from three years ago and then two at the end from today 🩵🥹🐾

What happens when you give your dog true leadership?
- they feel seen
- they have structure and expectations that make uncertain situations more predictable and manageable
- you have a system of communication with them
- they trust you to help them navigate situations that they couldn’t on their own
- you can create a better quality of life for both of you
- you BOTH have more sanity

Alpha theory behavior in wolves is only observed in captive, manmade situations with no clear structure or leadership. In the wild, wolf packs operate as family units with the parents being the dominant members of the pack. The most constructive, authentic, and natural way to provide a healthy relationship for your dog is by taking on that parent/leader role and establishing clear structure, communication, and boundaries balanced with love and care.

If your dog doesn’t listen to you, I would assess where your communication is unclear or where you’re not understanding who they are and what they need. I guarantee you will see a difference if you do.

And if you need insight from someone who studies and works with dogs and pack behavior on a daily basis, I’m here for you 🐾
