☀️ Summer is here and we know many pups are ready to hit the water! 🐾

Be sure to watch for “water chomping” while swimming. When dogs gulp or bite at the water, they can ingest bacteria and toxins that may be present - especially in ponds, lakes, or slow-moving water. Certain types of algae (like blue-green algae) can produce toxins that affect the liver and nervous system, and even small amounts can make dogs very sick. Other bacteria in the water can lead to vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, and dehydration. If the water looks murky, has a green film, or a strong odor, it’s best to keep your pup out.

Also, keep an eye on moisture in your pet’s ears after swimming or baths. That warm, damp environment is perfect for bacteria and yeast to grow, which can lead to ear infections - especially in our floppy-eared friends 🐶

A little prevention goes a long way in keeping your pets safe and happy this summer! 🌊
