Meet Storrs! 🐾

This young Dane is pretty much the definition of a Great Dane. She’s BIG, she’s d***y, she’s sensitive, she’s stubborn, and she’s still trying to figure out why the world expects her to be brave when she would much rather just do her own thing. 😂

But Storrs is no newbie around here! She’s already taken a few group classes and has a pretty good training foundation under her belt. Her owner decided that she might benefit from a little more one-on-one attention, especially when it comes to building her confidence and working through some of that Great Dane stubbornness.

Great Danes are often known as gentle giants. They tend to be incredibly affectionate, goofy, people oriented and sometimes completely unaware of just how LARGE they actually are. 😂 But they can also have a very sensitive side, and Storrs definitely does.

When she’s unsure about something, that stubborn streak comes out in full force. Sometimes “I don’t know about this” looks a whole lot like “absolutely not, you cannot make me.” 😂 there is video proof of her leaping over an entire obstacle in be brave! 🙈🤦🏼‍♀️

So we’ve been working on getting her out and about, building confidence and helping her learn how to work through things that feel a little uncomfortable.

Today we took another big step and had our first outdoor e-collar session! 🙌 And she did SO good!

For Storrs, this isn’t about rushing her or forcing her through things she isn’t ready for. It’s about clearer communication, building confidence and showing this big goofy girl that she CAN do hard things.

Gus had never been to the old Hilltop Golf Course in Coshocton. Pike, on the other hand, knows the place pretty well.

So when we decided it was time to give Gus a little more freedom to explore, it seemed like a pretty good place to put his off-leash training to the test.

And, well ... he passed.

Rabbits, a pond, and e-collar training — oh my! I wrote a short post about what makes this local spot an interesting place to visit with dogs, and why reliable recall matters when you're giving your dog opportunities to explore off leash.
