Pet ID - Turning the unknown into the well known

Unfortunately, even when we feel we are using caution around our pets, it only takes one quick sprint out the door for Mittens to escape into uncharted territory. Having a way to identify your pet can be a lifesaver even if your pet is strictly indoors or being monitored. Understanding the different types of identification and how they work is important when finding what best suits you and your pets' lifestyle.

Oftentimes there are many little details that can get missed when setting up your pet's identification. For example, after a pet has gotten their microchip placed, the owner must go online to register the chip in order for it to show the pet's information when being looked up. If the chip is not registered, it will not show the information needed to reunite owner and pet.

Time to have your furry friend microchipped? Give us a call at (541) 752-5595 or shoot us a message on Otto. Our team looks forward to working with you!

Pet Poison Prevention!

When talking about poison we often think of a mixture made up of many different chemicals but along with that there are many everyday objects that can be toxic to your pet. Just like with children it is important to keep hazardous materials out of reach and away from your pet(s) to prevent health issues or even death that may occur from ingesting or coming into contact with said material. Whether you are getting your very first pet or are well versed as a pet owner it is best to stay informed about what is or what may be poisonous to your furry friend.

If you do find your pet has come into contact with a toxin it is best to contact your veterinarian or call a pet poison line such as ASPCA 24/7 Poison Control Hotline at (888) 426-4435 or the Pet Poison Helpline at (855) 764-7661.

Today is World Spay Day!

Choosing to spay your pet can be beneficial to your pet(s) in many ways other than just stopping reproduction. Spaying your pet(s) decreases the risk of developing urinary tract infections and breast cancer, as well as eliminating heat cycles. Behavior can also be affected when spaying your pet, such as reducing or eliminating mating-related behaviors, marking territory, and, in some cases, aggression.

As always, it is important to consult with your veterinarian about what options are the best fit for your pet and their health. Ask questions like what age the spay should be done, if there are any requirements needed to be filled prior to or post-surgery, and what the estimated cost shall be. During this time it is also important to inform your veterinarian if your pet is in heat or has gone through a heat cycle and if they are or may be pregnant.

Ready to get rid of those go**ds? Have a question? Please feel free to call us at 541-752-5595 or send us a message on Otto. We look forward to working with you and your furry friend(s)!

Why should I neuter my pet?

Choosing to neuter your pet can be beneficial to your pet(s) in many ways other than just stopping reproduction. Neutering your pet(s) decreases the risk of developing an enlarged prostate gland and eliminates testicular cancer. Behavior can also be affected when neutering your pet, such as reducing or eliminating mating-related behaviors, marking territory, and in some cases aggression.

As always, it is important to consult your veterinarian about what options are the best fit for your pet and their health. Ask questions like what age the neuter should be done, if there are any requirements needed to be filled prior to or post-surgery, and what the estimated cost shall be.

Ready to get rid of those go**ds? Have a question? Please feel free to call us at 541-752-5595 or send us a message on Otto. We look forward to working with you and your furry friend(s)!

Now that February is here and puppy love is in the air, it’s the perfect time to talk about puppy and kitten socialization!

The first few months of a puppy’s or kitten’s life are incredibly important. This is a critical period for socialization, early training, and building a strong foundation that allows their personalities to truly blossom. Socialization can begin as early as 3 weeks of age. Puppies experience their peak socialization window between 12 and 14 weeks, while kittens reach theirs a bit earlier, around 9 weeks of age.

Making the most of this window can set your new furry friend up for a lifetime of confidence and positive interactions. That said, it’s important to balance socialization with safety, especially while your pet is still completing their vaccination series. Avoid high animal-traffic areas, and limit interactions to pets who are fully vaccinated or whose vaccination history you know and trust.

Time for some updated vaccines? Give us a call at (541) 752-5595 or shoot us an Otto message to get scheduled! Our team looks forward to working with you and your furry friend(s)!

Today is World Cancer Day!

Just like in humans, our furry friends can develop an array of cancers from nose to toes. Being able to find and fight cancer in its early stage can make all the difference in your pet's health. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), approximately 1 in 4 dogs will develop cancer during their lifetime. Cats are also at risk of developing cancer in their lifetime, with lymphoma, mammary, and oral tumors being the most common.

Whether your pet is a happy, healthy companion or bravely facing a cancer diagnosis, today we acknowledge the courage of our pets, the dedication of veterinary teams, and the ongoing research that gives us hope for better treatments and cures.

Time to check a new growth or see what's got Fido down? Stop in or give us a call at (541) 752-5595. Our team looks forward to working with you and your furry friend(s)!
