We had such a great time yesterday at the Lake Norman Chamber - 2026 Business EXPO!

We were excited to debut Cat About Town, the first cat cafe in our area! Cat About Town is a non-profit initiative of Cats of Davidson.

Our renovation on Catawba Avenue is coming along quickly. At this point, we are targeting January (but it could be sooner - so watch this space!) Can't believe we are almost done!

Please watch this space for upcoming news; now that we are closer, we will be posting more and more updates. Remember to like and share us with all your fellow cat-loving friends and family and we hope to see you soon!

Today Chris Johnson from Chris Johnson Landscapes (Chris's website here: https://buff.ly/ieFIA8K - please consider him for any landscaping needs!) showed up with all the plants you donated. Honestly - it happened so fast we couldn't believe it - by the end of the day, his entire "grocery list" had been covered.

Thank you doesn't begin to cover it, but thank you. We wanted you to see the immediate result.

Lake Norman's First Cat Cafe!

I went over to JCR Cabinets today to take some pictures and video of our new cabinets for a post I was planning to share later.

That plan lasted about five minutes because LOOK AT THESE CABINETS. They are stunning and so far above and beyond what I even imagined!

JCR Cabinetry volunteered to build and install all of our custom cabinetry for Cat About Town at no charge. We are paying only for the materials. For a nonprofit trying to stretch every dollar as far as it will go, that is an enormous gift.

JCR Cabinets is a local, family-owned business, and they have been wonderful to work with from the beginning. They do both residential and commercial cabinetry, and somewhere along the way we learned that they have even built cabinets for (am I allowed to stay the name? rhymes with BarDucks - ha!) locations in California.

And now they’re building cabinets for our little nonprofit cat café in Cornelius. Can you believe that?

We have been incredibly fortunate to have people and businesses step forward and say, “We can help.” Every time it happens, it takes a little pressure off our budget and lets us put more of our resources toward what Cat About Town is really here to do: help more cats.

So this is not even the official cabinet post. That one is coming, because I have pictures and video and there is much more to show you. The cabinet building process is *so cool*.

I was just too excited to wait once I saw them.

Guess what we did this past week??? We met with two sign-makers to discuss the Founders' Wall! Where it will be, how big it will be, what materials, etc.

We are pretty much set on it being comprised of paw prints in the shape of a cat, with names (and or phrases "In Memory of" for example) engraved on the paw. It's going to so gorgeous and very visible - so beautiful.

This is our current status:

Drywall is up and is being taped and mudded, even as we speak. This week, if all goes well, the floors will be prepped for Tile and LVT. Cafe equipment is being ordered, and the cabinets are being fabricated. The website is (mostly) done, and the reservations system is being set up. Merchandise is being designed and will be on the website soon.

We are in the corner breathing into oxygen masks. Just kidding! (or am I?)

We are so grateful to the community for having gotten us to this point. We still have quite a bit to go, but it's looking really promising to be open (or at least a soft opening) this year as planned and a real Doors Open in January.

Having said that, this is the last chance to become one of our official Founders because once we place the order for the engraving - let's just say this cat isn't having kittens (ha - I crack myself up). If you've been waiting to support Cat About Town, now is the time.

We look forward to sharing lattes and cattes with everyone soon!

I can't believe we are getting so close!

WE HAVE DRYWALL.

This is the point where it all starts to come together and look fantastic. The next big step will be laying the tile in the cat rooms, and the flooring everywhere else. It honestly almost feels a bit surreal.

In other news, our website is coming along - I'd share it with you but it hasn't been optimized for mobile yet. The important thing about the website is......(drum roll)...reservations for the cat rooms will be coming soon!!!! Having said that, remember we will also be a coffee shop so you can always come, have a coffee, and stay for awhile. A welcoming space built by the community for the community - it won't be long now!

Please share as well - we need to start getting the word out about the latest hotspot!

I have to be honest - I wasn't expecting such a quick outpouring of support around our landscaping and I wasn't ready! There are now several ways to help.

2. If you would like to go to Turtle Creek Nursery, you can browse and pick out the plants you'd like to contribute from our list here. A fun day trip; be aware the prices at the nursery may differ from what we have posted.

3. You can go to any nursery you prefer, and pick out the plants you'd like to contribute from our list here. Just let us know so we can have someone pick them up or make arrangements to have you get them to Chris Johnson.

When you come visit, enjoy your coffee and the garden before you see the cats!

Something fun is coming together at Cat About Town!

This new fence frames the parking area now, but not for long — it’s eventually getting a mural by a local artist, and we cannot wait to see it come to life.
