Training tip of the week
Mistakes:
an action, judgment, or belief that is incorrect, often resulting from inadvertence, misconception, poor judgment, or lack of attention, leading to unintended or wrong outcomes, such as spelling errors, blunders, or misunderstandings. While sometimes causing regret, mistakes are also seen as essential parts of learning, helping individuals correct errors and improve through experience.
We all learn from mistakes and how not to make them from making them.
Sometimes we make them several times before we figure it out.
What if every time you made a mistake you were punished for making that mistake.
Clearly you had a misunderstanding of the situation to make the mistake.
If you are punished for it time and time again you will start to anticipate the punishment and fear making a mistake to learn from.
You will become frantic and unconfident in your actions.
Fearing the outcome instead of learning the task.
This is true for your dog as well.
If the dog fears the outcome it will not take the chance to learn.
Be fair, consistent and provide a clear understanding before teaching consequences.
