🐾 Let’s Talk Lice! 🐾

Did you know dogs and cats can get lice too? These tiny parasites live on the skin and hair coat and can cause itching, scratching, dry/flaky skin, hair loss, and an unhealthy-looking coat. You may even be able to see the lice or their eggs (nits) attached to the hair—like in this photo! 🔍

The good news? Pet lice are species-specific. Canine and feline lice do not live or reproduce on humans, so you don’t have to worry about your pet giving you head lice. ❤️

🦷 What you see above the gumline is only part of the story!

This is a perfect example of why dental X-rays are such an important part of a thorough dental procedure. A tooth can look fairly normal from the outside while significant disease is hiding beneath the gums.

In this case, dental X-rays revealed changes below the gumline that told our veterinary team this tooth needed to be extracted. Once removed, you can really see just how much was going on beneath the surface!

🚨 CASE OF THE DAY: BLOCKED CAT 🚨

This handsome guy came to us with a urinary blockage—a serious and potentially life-threatening emergency in male cats. 🐱💙 Thankfully, he received the care he needed and is now on the road to recovery!

A urinary blockage prevents a cat from being able to urinate and can quickly lead to dangerous toxin and electrolyte buildup.

⚠️ Know the warning signs:

* Frequent trips to the litter box
* Straining to urinate with little or no urine produced
* Crying or vocalizing in the litter box
* Licking the ge***al area excessively
* Vomiting, hiding, lethargy, or acting painful

If your cat is straining and unable to urinate, DO NOT WAIT. Urinary obstruction is an emergency and requires immediate veterinary care.

We are currently seeing positive cases of feline panleukopenia in our area. This highly contagious virus can be especially dangerous for kittens and unvaccinated cats.

🐱 Watch for:
• Lethargy
• Loss of appetite
• Vomiting
• Diarrhea
• Fever
• Dehydration

💉 Vaccination is the best protection! If your cat is not current on vaccines, give us a call to get them protected.

⚠️ If your cat is showing symptoms, please call us before coming into the clinic so we can take proper precautions.

When your pet needs radiographs, our veterinarians carefully review the images—but some cases can benefit from an additional expert opinion. When needed, we can send radiographs to a board-certified veterinary radiologist for interpretation. 🩺🔍

These specialists have advanced training in diagnostic imaging and can provide additional insight into subtle or complex findings, helping our doctors make the most informed decisions about your pet’s care.
