💙💙 BOY OR GIRL PUPPY? 💗💗

One of the questions I hear all the time is:

“Should I choose a boy or a girl?”

After more than 25 years of raising puppies and living with both males and females, my answer is usually:

Either one can be absolutely wonderful! ❤️

There are so many myths about male vs. female puppies, but every puppy is an individual. Personality, temperament, health, socialization, and how well the puppy fits your family are much more important than gender.

💙 BOYS

In my experience, boys are often very happy-go-lucky, playful, affectionate, and silly. Many keep that adorable puppy-like personality for a long time.

They can be extremely cuddly, people-oriented, and eager to be part of whatever the family is doing.

Some people worry about behaviors such as marking, but training, maturity, environment, and whether the dog is neutered can all play a role.

💗 GIRLS

Girls can be just as loving and affectionate. In my experience, some girls tend to be a little more independent or serious and may like affection more on their own terms—but there are plenty of girls who are total cuddle bugs too!

They can be smart, confident, funny, sweet, and extremely devoted to their families.

🐶 Already have a dog?

Sometimes choosing a puppy of the opposite s*x can make introductions and household dynamics easier, but again, temperament is extremely important. Two boys or two girls can also live beautifully together when their personalities are compatible.

✨ So what should you choose?

Instead of choosing only by gender, I encourage my families to look at:

❤️ Temperament
❤️ Energy level
❤️ Confidence
❤️ Affection level
❤️ Compatibility with children
❤️ Compatibility with other pets
❤️ Lifestyle of the family
❤️ Health

This is why I love helping my families choose their puppies based on TEMPERAMENT MATCHING.

I raise these babies from birth, so I get to see their personalities develop every single day. Some are little comedians, some are cuddle bugs, some are adventurous, some are calmer, and some just want to follow you everywhere. 🥰

The “perfect puppy” isn’t necessarily a boy or a girl.

And remember—when deciding when to spay or neuter your puppy, speak with your veterinarian because the ideal timing can vary depending on breed, size, s*x, health, and lifestyle.
