🍎 Tyler’s Training Tip Tuesday 🍎

Learning a DROP IT command!

🐶Dogs pick up things with their mouth all the time, that’s just a dog being a dog. BUT what if they pick up something they shouldnt? It’s important to be able to tell your dog to let go of things as a part of general pet safety and basic obedience.

This is where a “drop it” command comes in handy! This command is one we have to use regularly during play in order to successfully implement in real life.

Start working on the command with your dog’s toys and slowly start trying it with different items. More often than not, we want to ask for the drop during play so the command stays fun for the dog. And on the rare occasion we need to, we will sn**ch the object and not give it back.

Keep in mind, asking them to drop any kind of food or treats is a “playing in the Super Bowl” level of skill. You’ve got to do your time in practice playing peewee ball before you’re ready for the big leagues, kid. 🏈
