If you were a full time athlete would you cut corners on your health and well being?🤔
(Psst… the answer is NO!)
As a full-time athlete, you would maintain a consistent routine and use advanced recovery tools to stay in peak shape.

So why don’t riders do that for their equine athletes?

Maybe it’s cost,
Maybe it’s lack of discipline,
Maybe it’s that the rider isn’t a “serious” competitor,
Or Maybe it’s because the owner hasn’t made a name for herself yet,
Regardless our equine partners can’t talk
They can’t always tell us where they hurt
They can’t always tell us where they might be sore
They can’t always tell us when they took a wrong step turning the second barrel
They can’t always tell us why they may be acting or feeling a certain way.

Riders will notice a change when they become proactive instead of reactive when it comes to their equine partners.
Think about that for a minute…
When you are proactive
You help prevent soreness,
You help prevent injury,
You help prevent behavior issues,
You help prevent health concerns,
This means your horse can perform their absolute best because they’re feeling their best!

When I started Rodeo2Recovery my goal was to provide the best possible care for equine athletes as well as keeping it at an affordable rate.
You and your equine partner are a team.
Your horse cannot preform their best if you have an inconsistent training schedule and lack of recovery care for them.
Treat your horses like the athletes they are and you’ll be amazed with the results!😉

We have a lot of new followers!!!
I wanted to make a post to re-introduce myself!

Hi there! My name is Emma Kay Elkins and I’m a first generation cowgirl! My love for horses began at a very young age. My father bought me a pony and after that I was hooked! Somewhere along the line one pony turned into a barn full of horses!

I started showing in all disciplines around the age of 9 and quickly fell in love with gymkhana and speed events. I was an active member in 4-H and FFA throughout high school. Somewhere along the lines I decided 4-H wasn’t enough and wanted to expand into rodeo. In 2019, I became a National High School Rodeo Association Team OHIO competitor and qualified for the 2020 NHSRA Finals in Iowa. Following a whirlwind of events after COVID, I restarted my rodeo career with the Ohio Junior Rodeo Association.

Once aging out, I have been slowly rebuilding and training my own horses and have more recently started hauling and seasoning some of my horses that are in training. This year I have been actively running Rough E Rodeo Circuit alongside my 3 sisters!

I started Rodeo2Recovery: Equine Bodywork & Massage to not only keep my horses feeling and performing their best but also to help others excel!

In the future I hope to purchase my PRCA Card and run the Pro- Rodeo circuit!
In the meantime, I am soaking up every minute of progress with my young horses, spending time with family and friends, and meeting new clients!

Not only does the machine do its job keeping animals feeling well rested and comfortable but so does the gear bag apparently!😂🤭
This little stinker decided my MagnaWave Corporate - Wellness and Pain Relief gear bag was a nice spot to take a nap while I completed a session on one of my personal horses!

Looks like we’re in for a rainy week!⛈️
This is the perfect time to schedule a spa day for those ponies!

Look at that full body shake!
It’s important that horses do for a variety of reasons!⬇️
Overall this helps a horse realign their spine, release muscle tension, and helps to shift their nervous system into a relaxed state.
1- Nervous System reset
This helps a horse transition the body out of work mode and into relaxed mode. It allows your horse to enter into a calm and balanced state

2- Muscle Release
When the horse shakes it uncoils any tight spots and realigns the fascia along the neck and back.

What does it mean if your horse isn’t doing this? Take a look⬇️

1- Smooth wave shake
A healthy horse will ripple from its nose to its tail in one fluid motion.

2-Partial Shake
If your horse is shaking only their head or neck they may be suggesting they are still or sore. Most areas of concern with this would point to their back, often times signaling stiffness in the spine.

3- Not Shaking at all
When a horse skips shaking after a roll or in general this is often a huge red flag 🚩
This means a horse is showing signs of discomfort, pain or additional health concerns.

Pay close attention to your horse next time they shake or roll, they might be telling you they need a spa day!
