Ride #5 for Laramie in the books. Continuing with foundation training working on guiding, lateral/vertical flexion, stopping and backing. She had her first experience with riding around a dog with zero cares. We then walked across the property to the obstacle pasture, and she did a couple of the easy ones.... She has such a good brain. I think she's going to be one jam up trail or obstacles challenge pony!!

Laramie had her first trip around the property yesterday, going over logs, seeing all of the things new, and she was perfect. She was a little lookie, but never spooked or took a wrong step. I haven't been on her in a week due to the rain and being wet, and she rode off on ride #4 like an old broke pony. So far, she doesn't require any groundwork before being ridden. I plan to start hauling her to see new places next week.

She then got to watch a fellow BEHS training horse get a complimentary PEMF session, followed by one of her own!

‼️A few Fun Facts about Laramie‼️

She is an easy keeper - her diet consists of alfalfa pellets and Bluebonnet Limited Balancer with coastal and alfalfa hay. She has buddied up with my mini, Rio, who is her next-door neighbor. She spends her free time chilling in her pasture and picking with Rio through the fence. She has a 1/2 acre pasture to herself but does fine in a stall if needed. She gets along with my big girls through the fence. At my place, she has been introduced to cows, dogs, chickens, ducks, low flying airplanes and helicopters, gun fire, various obstacles, and fireworks. At her previous foster, she was pastured with other horses and Emus. She most definitely prefers to have a pasture buddy. She gets a lot of tie time, as it is an essential part of training!

We've assigned over 65 horses to Training Challenge applicants and have been able to take in horses from two different rescues and from a couple of donors we might not have been able to help. So that's helping more horses and plenty of horses for you to follow on Facebook and meet at the Expo!
The stressful news is that we only have one sponsor so far (a big thank you to Mary and Texas Ranch Specialist for being our first sponsor!). and only one vendor so far (thank you Linda and KIS Accessories for being our first vendor!).
It Bluebonnet's 20th year of operations, and that's a huge thing! I want to celebrate that with an amazing Expo. I really love the Expo – not only are we raising money for a good cause, but there are so many educational opportunities, so much shopping, and gorgeous horses to meet. Plus we get to see friends we haven't seen in a year or more and make new ones.. It really is an amazing day, and I hope you can help us make it the best one yet.
So how can you help the horses (and as a side-benefit also help stop my panic attack)?
The easiest thing you can do is help us spread the word. more people who attend, the better the event we’ll have. And helping like this is free – and anyone can do it, you don’t have to be in Texas!
We also need both sponsors and donors. Sponsors help cover the cost of putting on the event so that all money raised during the event can go to helping horses, and donations are used to help care for the horses need us. You can learn more about both sponsorship and donations at https://bluebonnethorseexpo.com/blog/sponsors/. Sponsors and donors don't need to be in Texas, either, so if you can't sponsor or donate - spread the word. You never know who you might reach.
We also need vendors. Vendors are in the climate controlled vendor hall right past the entrance: we try to funnel every attendee through the vendor hall so they’ll see your products and/or services. Vendor spaces are 10x10 and are just $75. You can learn more at https://bluebonnethorseexpo.com/blog/vendors/
If you have any questions about sponsoring, donating, being a vendor, or helping out with the Expo in another way, please just let me know. I would love to have you (yes, you!) become part of the Expo community.

Very productive ride #3 - first time out of the round pen for Laramie. Working on maintaining gait, steering, and lateral flexion moving forward. Also introduced her to rating off my seat. I am training her the exact same as I would any performance horse....she will get all of the fancy buttons!!

🎉 Happy 4th!!

🎆 Fireworks are going off in all of the yards around us, and Laramie is standing chill with her leg cocked! Such a good minded pony!

Highlights from Laramie's second ride!! We got nice forward motion at the walk and trot with changes of direction. Introduced one rein stops for an emergency brake. Next ride will be out of the roundpen!

🎉Laramie had her first ride today!

I did a little pre-ride check, then stepped up in the saddle a few times before swinging my leg over. She handled it all quite well with a ton of distractions going on (airplanes flying over, my son mowing, and cars driving by). She's a little sticky moving forward, and then I found some 'oh no' spots that I had to work on. She did give me some good steps with forward motion at the walk and trot...so, I quit her there. I planned on loping her as I do all first rides, but I got a later start than I should have, it was hot and the horse flies were bugging her pretty good...so, why push it. We'll go again tomorrow - earlier!! The video is completely unedited, so you can see it all - the good, the bad, and the ugly. I want to be transparent in her training so potential adoptors know what they're getting!

‼️Potential adoptors - please help me out!!! ‼️

❓️ What are you specifically looking for in a horse's personality and temperament, and what are your expectations for the horse's capabilities and training level?❓️

I want to make sure I'm doing what's best for both Laramie and her potential adoptor to make a perfect fit!

A few things that I have learned about Laramie in month 1...

The positive:
●She is very willing and eager to please.
●She picks up new maneuvers/exercises quickly and usually only has to be shown one time.
●She loves people!

The negative:
●She is herd-bound... but not buddy sour. She will stand tied and work alone or away from the rest of the herd with zero issues... but will pace the fence when in the pasture alone.
●She has an ear issue, just if you want to get inside. She's fine with the outside, but don't let your finger slip in. It is a work in progress! (She is 100% fine with the flymask with ears)

***She is progressing so nicely in her training, and we should be going under saddle next week!!! She is going to make someone a super fancy little pony for trails or obstacles!
