Did you know your puppy’s socialization begins before they ever come home with you? 🐶

Those first eight weeks with their mother, littermates and breeder play an important role in how a puppy begins learning about the world. They’re learning how to communicate with other dogs, developing bite inhibition, experiencing new sounds and surfaces and beginning to discover whether unfamiliar things are safe.
Once your puppy comes home, that learning continues — but good socialization doesn’t mean introducing them to every dog and person you can find.
It means creating positive experiences that help your puppy become comfortable and confident in the world around them.

Today, we celebrate the dogs who make us laugh, keep us company, challenge us to become better communicators and somehow take up most of the bed despite being significantly smaller than we are.

Every dog deserves to feel safe, understood and loved. Whether your dog is still learning the basics, confidently showing off new skills or simply perfecting the art of being your very best friend, today is their day.

Leash pulling is one of the most common challenges dog guardians face, but here's something important to remember:

**Pulling doesn't mean your dog is stubborn, dominant or “bad.”**

Dogs pull for all kinds of reasons. They naturally walk faster than we do. The outside world is FULL of exciting smells and distractions. Pulling may have gotten them where they wanted to go before. Some dogs are overstimulated or anxious.

And sometimes? They simply haven't been taught what to do instead.

Not sure which August Respectful Pup class is right for your dog?
Start with your dog's age, experience and biggest current need.
🐶 Choose S.T.A.R. Puppy if:
Your puppy is between 12 weeks and 8 months old and needs help building early manners, socialization, confidence and communication skills.
Starts August 12 at 5 p.m.
🏅 Choose Canine Good Citizen if:
Your dog already has some foundational skills and is ready to work on reliable manners and real-world obedience as you prepare for the CGC test.
Starts August 12 at 6:15 p.m.
🪵 Choose Parkour if:
Your dog is at least 18 months old and would enjoy movement, safe obstacles, problem-solving and confidence-building activities.
Starts August 17 at 5 p.m.
🐕 Choose K-9 Manners if:
Your dog is six months or older and needs stronger everyday skills like recall, leash walking, waiting, settling and responding around distractions.
Starts August 18 at 5 p.m.
Every dog is different.
Choose the program that meets your dog where they are and helps you build forward together.
Classes are held at Willow Acres Training Center in Conifer.
