Google wanted to protect this horse's identity. 🤣

Google Maps accidentally blurred a horse’s face… and the internet absolutely ran with it.

In a recent Street View capture, Google’s AI — normally used to blur human faces and license plates — mistakenly treated a horse like a person, neatly obscuring its face for “privacy.” The result? A completely ordinary horse standing by the roadside… with its identity fully protected.

Naturally, it went viral.

Social media filled up fast with jokes, with people thanking Google for respecting the horse’s privacy and rolling out endless puns — “neigh-meless” quickly becoming a favourite. It’s exactly the kind of harmless, ridiculous moment the internet loves.

But not everyone missed the irony.

While a horse with no concept of privacy gets full protection, many pointed out that human data is still routinely tracked and monetised in ways most users barely notice. The contrast gave the joke a sharper edge for some.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time it’s happened. Google’s blurring system has occasionally overcorrected before, including past cases where animals were treated like people. The AI is built to err on the side of caution — and apparently, anything with eyes looking toward the camera qualifies.

Even if it’s a horse.
