Bear Spot Farm and Foundation

Bear Spot Farm and Foundation Our Page is dedicated to people that love dressage and horses. Bear Spot Farm was established in the early 90's in Concord, MA by Jane Karol.

Our goal is to provide news and updates about our farm and our foundation and to share our love for horses and equine psychotherapy. The unique name comes from her two dogs, Bear and Spot, who had been with her for some time, though sadly have now passed. In the last 18 years, the farm has grown from a one barn establishment to a multiple-building, top quality boarding and training facility. Bear

Spot Foundation offers a unique combination of traditional psychotherapy with dressage riding and horse care. The Foundation's programs have successfully addressed the needs of clients with affective disorders (like depression), ADD/ADHD, anorexia, bulimia and concerns related to low self-esteem, separation and loss and anxiety and phobias. A 501(c) non-profit organization, we rely on donor funds to provide low-cost or no-cost therapy to children in need and to support the needs of our rescue horses.

An exciting Wellington weekend ☀️ Two of our horses and one BSF rider participated in the USEF Dressage Training Series! Both combinations had 3 wonderful lessons with George Williams.

Destar, owned by Jane Karol and ridden by Kenzie Dicks, had a fantastic & educational weekend! We are so proud of how far Kenzie and Destar have come in such a short time - this beautiful pair is gearing up for an exciting FEI Junior season ahead 🏆✨
When we heard that Ava Noone was invited to attend but needed a horse, Oz, owned by JKS Dressage Horses LLC, stepped in as the perfect match! They both WOWed us - Ava with her skill to catch ride in such an big clinic & Oz, proving he’s ready to shine with his next partner ⭐️

Our very own Leah Drew not only is an accomplished Young Rider, but also the captain of the Mount Holyoke College Intercollegiate Dressage Association team🌟
This past weekend, with just a 10-minute warmup on a new horse, she won the First Level class! She then earned 2nd in the Dressage Seat Equitation. Leah was awarded Reserve High Point of the day, helping MHC secure 2nd place overall 🏆
We are so proud of Leah and her commitment to the sport, both here at Bear Spot and at while at school!

Our young but mighty Bear Spot Farm riders have returned home from the 2025 Festival of Champions! We are beyond proud of each rider for qualifying and shining in this big arena 💕

✨ Leah Drew & Jazz competed in their first FEI Young Rider Championship! Leah’s love for Jazz and the sport shines through the ups and downs - her determination and mindset make us so proud and excited for what is next for this talented pair!

✨ Sophia Forsyth & Magic returned to the FEI Young Rider Championships with both scores over 67% and podium finishes each day, including 2nd in the Team Test! They secured 3rd place in the country! This combination continues to impress us and we can’t wait to see what the future has in store.

✨ Kenzie Dicks & Destar have only been together for a few months, but achieved Kenzie’s goal of qualifying for the FEI Junior Championships! This was Kenzie’s first year in the FEI divisions and her first championship. Both handled the atmosphere like professionals and Kenzie rode beautifully - finishing in the Top 10. This is a partnership to watch!

Huge thank you to Jane Karol for her top coaching both in Illinois and at home, and to Hope Cooper for also helping these riders be their best while keeping things running smoothly in Massachusetts this week. Endless gratitude to Amanda McNeil for her expert grooming, organization, and endless knowledge - plus the families of these riders, our wonderful team at home, our vets, farriers, and bodyworkers who make this possible 🌟

It truly takes a village! Already looking forward to 2026 🏆

Earlier this week, we sadly said goodbye to Tome.
After 26 full years of life, this Grand Prix schoolmaster and remarkable therapy horse left an unforgettable mark on everyone at Bear Spot. Selflessly donated by Judy, Tome brought daily smiles to clients, staff, and visitors - whether he was out for a stroll with a client or teaching the ropes of Grand Prix. He spent his well deserved retirement with the wonderful Missi Cool in Tennessee, surrounded by many fellow beloved Bear Spot horses. Thank you, Tome, for the joy, lessons, and love you shared with us all 🤍

For the first time in 10 years, an American rider has made it directly into the finals at the World Breeding Championships for Young Horses - that rider is our very own Hope Cooper 🇺🇸
A beautiful ride in the 6-Year-Olds First Qualification earned them an 83.4% for 12th place out of 40 riders - and they are the only American pair in the division 🎉
We are so proud of this team - congratulations to Ollie’s owners, the Richard/Dicks family, who are sharing this special week in Verden with Hope! A long list of people to thank, but most importantly Ollie’s family, Jane Karol, Christoph Koschel, our incredible vets, farriers, body workers, super groom Josie Zeeb with special help this week from Manon Burban, and everyone at home keeping the barn going while Hope makes her mark in Germany. On to the Finals! ✨🇩🇪
