Finally some serious progress with Opie 💚

We have added exercise and free roaming in the property (aka playing and running with the girls) and I think he has only shown soreness maybe once or twice.

And that was several hours of activity in one day.

Hoping to get more training this fall and maybe he might be ready for a trial in the spring.

We still haven’t practiced jumping and I think we will wait with the jumps until he gets more muscle back.

Heeling definitely needs to be fine tuned but dumbbells we are just going to hope for the best 🤣

(If you are serious about dog training, probably not the best advice here).

Might need to do some long downs with distractions as well because that’s something he might have forgotten.

But other than that he is basically ready 🤪

I am not sure what is the reason that lately my social media has been filled with dog fights or issues with dogs in the same household.

Maybe because we brought home a little human recently? I was reading posts about having issues with their dogs that had been together since puppies and then somewhere in the hundreds of comments they said that nothing else has changed but they did have a baby while back.

Even though we think nothing changes- at least our shepherds can definitely sense that something is different + we have such a big thing for routines that just that changing is a big thing for our pack.

Most of these posts one thing comes over and over (and at the moment it’s seems that I have plenty of time reading all over the internet 😆) and it’s how the owners say they never saw it coming. Unfortunately, lot of these stories that I been seeing they don’t end just for the dogs fighting but rather something more awful.

I have been involved in dog fights and they are never easy and at least personally I always go to panic mode because they are so intense and shepherds are not the smallest breed either.

I am not sure why people don’t talk about issues with same household dogs more. Because it’s definitely a thing.

And it’s not just the bully breeds and malinois - some many smaller breeds too. That one day something just shifts and the pack attacks one dog.

Our boys get along with other males, they just get along with each other. Especially at home.

While I have multiple areas and possibilities to keep them separated, anyone who is interested buying a puppy from us and they already have dogs previously in the family - I always want to know if there were issues how would they handle them.

Most of my dogs are crate trained and it can help when you have multiple dogs. But sometimes dogs do escape or crate/kennel door is left open 🤦🏻‍♀️

Luckily we had our routines and systems in place way before the baby arrived and our dogs are STARTING to settle to the new life but it has taken weeks.

My next worry is the old dog getting older and how to let him safely be around the baby when his eyes are not seeing that well anymore 😞

Any tips anyone?

Hoping that we can make some hiking happen this fall with him 💙

Last year he had no problems hiking a mountain 🏔️ to see the sunrise 🌅

(Because for sure that’s what he wanted to be doing at 5am 😆).

I feel like the past 6 months Jax has gotten older quickly.

His hearing and eye sight is drastically gone worse and he is also showing some signs of dementia. This I have diagnosed myself 👋 👩‍⚕️

But sometimes when he wakes up, it takes him a minute to realize who I am 💔 Also, might be the fact that he doesn’t seem to have the best eyes anymore.

But somehow, he is able to see Opie anywhere (the dog that he hates the most) and still hears the cookie jar 🫙 opening 😆

And if I would let him - would still pick a fight with Opie. I am sure that will never go away.

But then on the other side - he still comfortably spends HOURS at the yard with the girls. And Ally keeps making him run in circles 🤪

This spring he lost tons of weight and even when he eats most of all my dogs (3+ cups a day) he doesn’t seem to gain much of weight back. We ran his bloodwork on June and everything was normal.

He has always been a picky eater so this has surprised me. I started giving him a new supplement and he didn’t refuse that either. I also give him extra treats and he appreciates that 💙

I wish we could get some swimming done because water for sure is his element and it would be good for his joints as well 🥰

We are both looking for cooler weather and fall colors 🍁

And we are grateful every day that he is here to share this life with us 🖤

Tara 🩷

Can’t believe my little girl Tara turns 5 years in a couple of months.

She was the one that I was most worried about around the baby because she tends to be obsessed so easily 🤪

She is also our most velcro dog and really has surprised me big time. She has been absolutely amazing since day 1.

Happy Birthday to my beautiful Ally 🥰 How are you 2 years already 🩷

When I look at her; I see lots of her mother and grandmother and some weird habits from her dad 😅

I still refer to her as my “puppy” even though she is now 2 and maybe doesn’t qualify for puppy anymore.

This girl is not so little anymore and actually weighs more than Jax and Tara 🤪

But she is always happy and doesn’t let anyone get a rest 💨

Happy Birthday to my little wild girl 🩷

And so it’s time for a new chapter in our lives 🩷

At age of 12 years, Jax will have the most important job in his life ahead - protecting the precious little baby girl 🥰

To my surprise- when people found out that we were excepting I didn’t receive the normal pregnancy or baby questions.

The most common question was:

“What are you going to do with your dogs” 😅

They are still here and not going anywhere.

Their routines will change for sure and a longer break from showing, trialing & training is ahead.

But they will adapt to the new life just fine 💙

I can’t wait to see my two precious babies together 🥰

Ally has finally started her heat. I say finally because she has been showing signs of her heat for months and we have been just waiting for the start.

Her heats are nicer than Tara’s because this one comes to heat twice a year when Tara came like every 3-4 months 🤦🏻‍♀️

It’s kind of scary to think she will only have one more heat before she will get bred 😁 Of course, depending on her clearing all of her health tests.

She has cleared most of her health testing already, but just missing hips and elbows after she turns 2 years 😊

I know we could breed her already this fall but she will probably have her next heat around November and I don’t do winter litters here because of the winters are long and cold ❄️

We shall see if she keeps her heats consistent with November & June or she chooses to do something else.

She has achieved good conformation wins and some performance titles as well so we are happy about that.

Still hoping to get BH before her first breeding 😁

Can’t believe that my little puppy will turn 2 years old in couple of weeks 🩷

After almost 2 years of vet visits & medications happy to announce that Opie has been cleared of spondylitis 💚

Unfortunately, he is still not completely 100 % and he has some pain every now and then.

Vets don’t really agree if he would have mild arthritis or not, but we have decided to start couple of things that in mind.

He is getting a new orthopedic bed and Back on Track cover on top of the bed.

Welltex is a textile technology by Back on Track that reflects radiant body heat as far infrared radiation. The technology uses the reflective properties and emission spectrum of ceramic particles in a proprietary solution found exclusively in Back on Track products. And there has been several studies that shown this is helpful for preventing injuries in sport animals. And it can be helpful for arthritis too.

We are also trying new brand of joint supplements.

And we have consultation with some rehab to try out cold therapy and some other things that could be beneficial for him.

I am hoping with these things we can get him completely healthy again 🥰

Jax 💙

Couple of weeks ago I took Jax for an echocardiogram.

He has no issues with his heart and they have never noticed a heart murmur but I wanted to do this for research and future breeding purposes.

No evidence for congenital heart disease 💙

They did find MMVD (age related).

Myxomatous Mitral Valve Disease (MMVD) causes the mitral valve to thicken and leak, leading to backward blood flow (mitral regurgitation) and an enlarged heart.

Cardiologist said that she sees MMVD a lot in older dogs and no medication or treatment is needed.

She also said that it’s not common to bring 12 year old dog for echo and that he is in a great condition 🥰

This is actually the same cardiologist who has now echoed 5 of my dogs/puppies.

She was like I was pretty sure that it was your dogs when I saw the breed on my list.

We also talked about my other dogs and heart conditions in general and the memories me crying in her office when Tara was diagnosed came back quickly 😂

Now from my current pack only Opie is missing his echo and if I would ever breed him, I would definitely get that done as well.

The echo results will show abnormal on OFA database but cardiologist said that MMVD is more common that people think.

Age related MMVD like Jax has means the valves gets weaker due to age and it leaks when it open and closes.

She said it’s nothing that we need to worry about and she said honestly when a dog is in this great condition and over 12 years old - especially in large breed - this is not the norm and we should be very happy 🥰

I always knew Jax has heart of gold 💓
