As summer comes to an end, we’re preparing to say β€œsee you later” to two wonderful members of our team! πŸ’™πŸΎ

Today is Brooke’s last day with us before she returns to Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine for her second year of veterinary school. We’ve loved having her work alongside our team as a veterinary technician intern, and we’re so excited to watch her continue working toward becoming a veterinarian! πŸ©ΊπŸ“š

We’ll also be saying goodbye to Paige on August 20th as she returns to Angelo State University for her final year of undergraduate studies. Paige is completing her degree in Agricultural Science and Leadership along with her teaching certification. She has been part of our team as a veterinary and kennel technician during the summers since 2021, and we’re incredibly grateful for all of her hard work, dedication, and care over the years! 🐢🐱

Please join us in wishing Brooke and Paige the very best as they head back to school! We’ll miss having them here, but we know they both have exciting things ahead! πŸ’™

On July 13th, just before the flooding, we discovered FOUR tiny newborn kittens scattered around our clinic and two of them are pictured here. πŸ±πŸ’™ They were only a day old, and trying to get pictures was quite the challenge because they were so wiggly!

Our team couldn't leave them behind, so two of our staff members stepped in to help. One of our technicians, Paige, took in two kittens, and our front office team member, Faith, took in the other two. Since then, we've been bottle-feeding them around the clock and giving them all the love and care they need to grow big and strong.

These little ones will stay with us until they're old enough to be weaned from the bottle, but we're already looking ahead for their forever homes! If you or someone you know may be interested in adopting one of these sweet babies when they're ready, please let us know. We'd love to help them find loving families. 🩡

We'll be sure to share updates as these tiny kittens continue to grow!

⚠️ Have you ever seen one of these?

Today, one of our receptionists found a kissing bug on her dog, Kitzy, and brought it to Lindner Animal Hospital for identification. While not every kissing bug carries the parasite that causes Chagas disease, finding one on your pet is a good reminder to stay alert. As a precaution, Kitzy will be tested for Chagas disease in 3 weeks, according to our veterinarian's recommendations.

What is Chagas disease?
Chagas disease is caused by the parasite Trypanosoma cruzi, which can be carried by kissing bugs. Dogs most commonly become infected by eating an infected kissing bug or through contact with the bug's infected f***s.

Signs of Chagas disease may include:
πŸͺ² Lethargy
πŸͺ² Loss of appetite
πŸͺ² Fever
πŸͺ² Weakness
πŸͺ² Exercise intolerance
πŸͺ² Heart rhythm abnormalities or other heart disease

Some infected dogs never show signs of illness, while others can develop serious heart disease months or even years after infection.

How can you help protect your pets?
βœ”οΈ Bring pets indoors at night whenever possible.
βœ”οΈ Reduce outdoor lights that attract insects.
βœ”οΈ Remove brush, woodpiles, and debris where kissing bugs may hide.
βœ”οΈ If you find a suspected kissing bug, avoid handling it with your bare hands and contact your veterinarian if your pet may have been exposed.

πŸ“Έ We've included a photo of the actual kissing bug found on Kitzy today, along with examples to help you recognize these insects. We've also included a picture of Kitzy because she's so cute!

If you believe your pet has come into contact with a kissing bug or you have questions about Chagas disease, please give us a call. We're always happy to help!

Sometimes the smallest patients make the biggest impression. πŸπŸ’•

This sweet little goat stopped by to see us at just one day oldβ€”and arrived in the cutest little basket we've ever seen! Safe to say our staff couldn't resist stopping for a few photos.

Welcome to the world, little one! We can't wait to watch you grow.
