Dr. Alec Davern joined fellow equine surgeons at the 2026 ACVS Surgery Summit for a panel discussion on the use of umbilical cord allograft (Equicenta® CTM) in real-world lame performance horses.

The discussion brought together clinical perspectives on Equicenta’s use in equine practice and gave Dr. Davern the opportunity to share his experience with fellow veterinarians.

Tryon Equine was well represented at the ACVS 2026 Surgery Summit in Charlotte this past weekend! Dr. Alec Davern, Dr. Paige Chisholm, Dr. Sarah Eastham, Dr. Ellison Aldrich and Dr. Willow M’Cloud attended.

Continuing education gives our team the opportunity to learn, share ideas and bring fresh knowledge back to Tryon for the benefit of our patients and clients. We’re excited to welcome Dr. M’Cloud to the team next week!

Our hearts are heavy with the passing of Gino. We are grateful for the time he was part of the Tryon Equine family. Our thoughts are with his family and all who loved him.

Remembering Gino: A Legacy of Friendship, Dedication & Care 🐴🕊

Eleven months ago, we said goodbye to Gino as he retired from PHD Veterinary Services. Today, it is with heavy hearts that we share the news of his passing.

Gino’s story with Dr. Porter began long before PHD Veterinary Services. Gino and Dr. Porter shared a close friendship dating back to 1994 when Gino was a tech at University of Florida and Dr. Porter was a student. In 2015, Gino joined Dr. Porter at PHD and became his right-hand man. As PHD grew over the years, Gino was right there beside him caring for our patients, supporting our clients, and becoming an irreplaceable part of the PHD family.

Gino had a special way with horses. They trusted him, they loved him, and he cared for each of them as if they were his own. Those who had the opportunity to work alongside Gino or have him care for their horse know just how special he was.

While it was difficult to see Gino retire and move away last year, we are grateful knowing that his final 11 months gave him the opportunity to spend precious time with his family and reconnect with old friends.

For Dr. Porter, this is the loss of not only a longtime colleague and right-hand man, but a dear friend of more than 30 years. For all of us at PHD, it is the loss of someone who helped shape our practice into what it is today.

Gino will forever be part of the story of PHD Veterinary Services, and his legacy will live on through the countless horses and people whose lives he touched.
