Red Bell Run

Red Bell Run Home to The Sanctuary at Red Bell Run, a Special Needs Equine Sanctuary. They come here in need. We fulfill as many of those needs as we can.

The Sanctuary at Red Bell Run is home to special needs equines, those with medical or behavioral issues that make them unadoptable. Many times our residents are able to have a good quality of life with managed care; care that other organizations may not be able to provide due to staffing or financial restrictions. We strive to give each horse, mule, or donkey we care for the things that they lacke

d before coming to Red Bell Run. We do a lot of things here but at the Sanctuary, the most important thing we do is simply love them. OUR MISSION:
To rescue abused, neglected or at risk equines and other animals, offering rehabilitation and permanent placement including lifelong sanctuary. Foster the animal-human bond through empathy building, community assistance, educational and therapeutic programs.

Meet Blanche, Dorothy and Rose- our adorable “Golden Girls” trio of Pony molly mules. Rescued from a Texas kill lot in 2015, these three have been inseparable ever since. When we learned they might be split up to find homes, we knew we had to keep them together.

Since arriving at Red Bell Run, they’ve kept us laughing with their big personalities and endless antics. Whether they’re pushing bigger equines aside for the best spot at the hay rack, demanding treats for cooperation, or plotting their latest escape from the vet or farrier, life is never dull with these girls around.

Now happily living together on their track system in our Mini Woods barn, Blanche, Dorothy, and Rose continue to prove that the best friendships really do last a lifetime. ❤️

And then there were six...

On the run from a bad situation in Texas, three little mares, Jasmine, Violet, and Lillie, came to Red Bell Run at the request of the Humane Society of North Texas . No one knew that they were carrying precious cargo.

Nearly a year after arrival, a little surprise, Amaryllis (Amy), arrived on a cold December morning. After a quick trip to the vet clinic and a plasma transfusion to help boost her immunity, Amy pulled through beautifully. That’s when we began looking suspiciously at Jasmine and Lillie and sure enough, there were two more babies on the way! 😲

In due course Lillie delivered Apache who is a gorgeous buckskin. He too needed a plasma transfusion but soon came home to Red Bell Run. The youngest of this trio, Aspen, a bay with two blue eyes, was born the next month and came home from the vet clinic with his mom Jasmine.

Even though they’re now 8 years old, we still call them “the babies.” Amy, Apache, and Aspen live happily together at Centerview Barn right next door to their moms. The trio are the best of friends and spend their days running, playing, and napping side by side.

When a donkey feels relaxed and secure, you’ll often find them stretched out in the sun, maybe even snoozing right on top of their hay. 🥱

Our minis have a confession: they are adorable… and they are dramatic little potatoes who absolutely need their exercise.

That’s where our volunteers come in.
Walking minis, helping them through fun obstacles, giving them a chance to stretch their legs keeps them healthy and prevents issues like laminitis and weight gain. Plus, they love the attention.

If spending time with tiny, opinionated equines sounds like your kind of workout buddy, we’d love to meet you. Message us to learn how to volunteer. 🤳🏼

This Memorial Day, we honor the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice- both the men and women who served, and the animals who loyally stood beside them. ❤️

At Red Bell Run, love comes in many forms and one of the sweetest is mutual grooming.

When two equines gently nibble, scratch, or groom each other, they’re not just sharing a moment. They’re building trust, easing stress, and strengthening the friendships that help them feel safe.

For many of our residents, this kind of connection didn’t come easily. Some arrived unsure of other animals, unsure of people, unsure of the world. Watching them relax enough to say, “Hey friend… I trust you,” is one of the best parts of sanctuary life. ❤️
