Golden Endings Golden Retriever Rescue

Golden Endings Golden Retriever Rescue An organization dedicated to the welfare of homeless Golden Retrievers. How do I adopt a Golden Retriever?

The adoption fee for a Golden Endings dog varies for the age/needs per dog. This fee helps to pay the expenses incurred for the dog's medical treatment, which in many cases is less than GEGRR pays to bring the dog to an adoptable condition. Potential adopters are screened, by written application and by telephone interview. The application and the interview will help the adoption coordinator, and t

he adoption coordinator determines which dogs are most suitable for each applicant. If the applicant has had other pets, a veterinarian reference is requested. In some cases, GEGRR will conduct a home visit to see where a dog will live, play, and exercise. Also, adoptive families consent to periodic follow-up calls during their first year of ownership. Adoptive families are required to sign a contract regarding the treatment of their new pet. Care of the dog is never to be transferred to an animal shelter. If the family is unable or unwilling to keep the dog, it must be returned to Golden Endings. All GEGRR dogs are spayed or neutered and cannot be used for breeding purposes. The adoptive families agree to provide medical treatment when necessary and all annual booster vaccinations at a veterinary clinic of their choice. The adoptive family will provide the dog with its monthly heartworm preventative. The adoptive family agrees to keep their pet contained and not let it roam the neighborhood. Golden Endings requires the new owner to provide the dog with a course in basic obedience. Training will help the dog become a valued member of your family. We also recommend that you feed the dog a premium dog food, the benefits of doing this far outweighs the cost involved.

Jordan was adopted in 2019, when he was 3 years old.
A couple of years later he was diagnosed with Progressive Retinal Atrophy, he’s totally blind now. Jordan doesn’t let that affect his quality of life or his role as a therapy dog.
Jordan and his handler Jim passed their initial evaluation by Pet Partners in 2020 and they’ve been doing pet therapy ever since!
Jim has been a therapy dog handler with Pet Partners since 2003. Jordan is his sixth therapy dog partner, all of whom have been golden retrievers.
Jordan still continues to fulfill his role and duties as a therapy dog, as you can see in the photos. Jordan and Jim were invited to participate in belated Valentine’s Day celebration for the staff at Teays Valley Outpatient Center in Hurricane WV.
I wanted to share this extraordinary story of Jordan and his handler Jim.
I will never not be amazed at goldens like Jordan, who have overcome being blind to continue doing such exceptionally compassionate work, to provide comfort, affection and emotional support to people.
I would be remiss if I didn’t express our gratitude to Jim, who has been a long time supporter and adopter of Golden Endings.
Thank you Jim for sharing your awe-inspiring story with all of us. May you and Jordan continue to do your remarkable therapy work.

Piper contacted me a few days ago thru Facebook, she was concerned that her family didn’t get her enough Lambies for Christmas and thought that maybe she should ask for donations to purchase more?!!
Seriously though, I don’t think Piper will ever want for anything, especially her Lambies.
Piper is a real sweetheart, she was young when she came into our rescue, but didn’t have much social interaction, but her family loves her so very much and as you can see from the photo that she’s very much spoiled!
I’m really grateful to families who adopt goldens like Piper and are willing to help her become the happy, lovable girl that she had the potential to be!
I guess Piper’s family will have to outdo themselves come next Christmas and make sure that she has enough toys, especially since Piper contacted Golden Endings with her concerns!
As I’m sure her family will tell you that she has toys all over the house and probably a few that’s tucked away somewhere else for the future!

Meet cute little rain deer Lizzie!
Lizzie’s family has been long time adopters of golden endings, so I was contacted in November of 2024 to adopt another golden, as they had lost their last girl and thought they were ready.
When I called Lizzie’s mom and let her know I had a potential golden for her, she was flying to Des Moines Iowa! So we had to settle for me sending photos, but I think she fell instantly in love with her.
After Lizzie was settled in her new home, she started classes and gained her Canine Good Citizen certification and went on to get her Novice Trick certification! The ultimate goal is earning her Therapy Dog certification and I have no doubt that Lizzie will shine in that role.
I’m so excited that one of our rescue goldens has made such accomplishments and I know Lizzie and her Mom will do great work.

Remi came into our rescue in 2022, she was a retired breeder, most of her life was spent having babies. Remi didn’t know what a home was, but thankfully I got the most wonderful application.
Remi’s hopefully new Mom came to meet her and spent some time with her. Mom knew that Remi was going to take some time to figure out what a home and family was, but I certainly couldn’t have asked for a better person to love her. I would say it was difficult adjustment for a period of time, but Remi was finally able to be where she deservedly belonged.
I’m so grateful that they took that step and adopted her. Remi is with people who love her.
I think Remi recently celebrated her 9th birthday.
I love this photo of Remi, cause it looks like she’s dreaming of Santa coming!

Now that the holidays are finally over, I wanted to feature some of goldens in their Christmas best.
This is Bree she came in around April 2024, she was going to be two years old in November, upon intake Bree had the usual work up, her bloodwork showed that she was heart worm positive. We knew that she had months of treatment ahead of her, treatment that would be painful at times and require her to be crated for extended periods.
Fortunately Bree had adopters waiting for her, including her own 10 year old boy!!
Thankfully Bree did well with the treatment and was able to be safely spayed by our Veterinarian.
Bree has a wonderful home with a family who loves her, I think that’s why she’s smiling!
Enjoy Bree’s photo in her Grinch shirt.

Oakley 11/2014 - 12/2025
We adopted our beloved Oakley in August 2021. He loved catching balls and playing with his "sister" Penny. He had adventures with us in our RV. Visiting family in Pennsylvania and NJ and a big adventure to Acadia, ME. Unfortunately at age of 11 he succumbed to previously undiagnosed prostate cancer. We hope he loved his later years and the adventures.

A memorial to Abby...
Deb Baird & Nancy Noble
-------------
This is our adorable, loving Golden Retriever, Abby. She was initially Sally and she came to us from the Wheeling (Shady Side Branch) Golden Endings Rescue. We picked her up and from the beginning she was the best dog. She had all of her hair shaved off and during her first year with us, she grew it all back and became the beautiful dog she was meant to be. She always fit right into our household through various dog combinations. Her older Cocker Spaniel brother, Duffy, watched her being rambunctious from the couch, and her new puppy sister, Maddie, learned all there is to know about “Golden Retrievering” from Abby.

Abby had numerous toys, but she only loved big, yellow stuffed ducks. Occasionally, Maddie got one away from her, but not for long. Abby loved long walks, played endlessly with Maddie (thank goodness!), and enjoyed as many belly rubs as possible. Abby crossed the Rainbow Bridge after a year of chronic illness, but she remains in our thoughts and hearts forever. We love you, Deb and Nancy.

This is Jack, he’s the last permanent foster story for this year.
Jack spent eight years of his life in a breeding kennel, he’s blind in one eye so he was very frightened when he came to us as it was very difficult for him to navigate life in the real world.
Once Jack went to his foster home it was still hard for him to realize that he was safe and could go at his own pace to learn what a home was and people who love him and were willing to make sure he would become a true golden retriever.
It took him a few weeks figuring out what home life was, but his foster family finally saw him pick up a toy! They think some of his personality is finally showing cause he’s taken some of the ornaments off their Christmas tree and to his dog bed.
Jack still has a long way to get past his trauma and start living life, but we know his foster family will be there to support and care for him.

I know Thank you seems like a small word, but I can’t imagine not thanking our supporters, who adopt our goldens, who support us through out the year financially and of course our foster families. We hopefully will be able to continue our journey in 2026, as I’m sure there will be many more goldens that need rescuing.
I want to wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Thank you
