There is a lot of disbelief, confusion and anger surrounding Nebraska law regarding equine supplemental care modalities right now. Let's talk about this.
🟢 Hands-on massage is still perfectly legal. Yes, I can still do hands only bodywork on your horses.
🔴 Bodywork that uses any kind of tool, device, machine, or 'apparatus' can ONLY BE PERFORMED BY A VETERINARIAN as the law currently stands. If it's not a part of your actual body, you cannot use it. Period.
🔴 As the law has been interpreted and discussed by the Nebraska Vet Board, owners cannot perform any bodywork using an 'apparatus' on their own horses. I do not know how this would be enforced. I'm just stating how the vet board sees it.
So what can we do?
🔷️ There is currently a small group of ladies, myself included, seeking a legal way forward. We need the help of other practitioners, equine vets, and concerned owners! We cannot do this alone.
🔷️ Contact your state senators. These are the people with the power to change the law. The state senators MAKE the laws, the vet board follows and enforces it. The change has to happen at the legislative level.
🔷️ Reach out to the Nebraska Vet Board. Be respectful! Remember, our vets are the frontline of equine care. We are the supportive care. The best outcome for the horse is for the care teams to WORK TOGETHER. We love our vets!
🔶️ If you're a horse owner and you're not happy about this or you feel like you should have the right to choose the care for your animal, YOU CANNOT AFFORD TO SIT THIS ONE OUT. You need to speak up.
