🌀🐾 HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS: YOUR PETS ARE NOT OPTIONAL CARRY-ONS!!!

Hurricane Isaias is on its way, and now is the time to prepare your pets—not when the wind is howling, the power is out, and your dog is suddenly acting like the carrier is a personal attack. 🙃

🐾 YOUR HURRICANE PET SAFETY CHECKLIST:

✅ Stock up on medications. Make sure you have enough of all prescription medications and preventives to last through potential delays.

✅ Pack a pet emergency kit. Include at least 3–7 days of food and water, bowls, a leash, a carrier, waste bags, and familiar bedding.

✅ Update ID tags and microchip information. If your pet gets lost during a storm, current contact information can make all the difference.

✅ Keep vaccine records handy. Boarding facilities and emergency shelters may require proof of vaccination.

✅ Know where you're going. Identify pet-friendly hotels, shelters, or friends and family who can take your animals if you need to evacuate.

✅ Bring them inside. Secure outdoor pets before conditions deteriorate. Do not leave animals chained, fenced outside, or exposed to dangerous weather.

✅ Never leave pets behind. If it's not safe for you, it's not safe for them. If you evacuate, take your pets with you.

✅ Prepare for power outages. Have a plan for pets that require refrigerated medications, electricity-dependent equipment, or temperature-controlled environments.

🚨 IMPORTANT: Follow local emergency alerts and evacuation orders. Don't wait until the last minute to make a plan.

And please, for the love of everything furry, do not wait until the storm is at your doorstep to decide your 90-pound dog needs a safe place to go. 😅

Your pets depend on you to make the plans. Be prepared, stay informed, and keep the whole family—including the four-legged members—safe!

We know you love your pet, so please don't make any decisions like you have never met a thermometer before. 🫠

It's HOT. Too hot for anyone to think their pet will be ok in it for just a few minutes.

NO. THEY. WON'T.

🔥 Hot pavement can quickly burn paw pads. If the pavement is too hot for the back of your hand to rest for 5 seconds, it is way too hot for your dog.
🔥Cars become ovens ridiculously fast. Never leave your pet in a parked car. Not for "just a minute." Not even with the windows cracked.
🔥 Heatstroke can happen quickly and can be fatal.
🔥Humidity makes panting less effective.
🔥"But my dog LOVES going for walks!"- Ma'am, your dog also eats p**p. They are not the authority on good decisions.

Walk early. Walk super late. Keep them inside during peak heat. Provide plenty of water. And for the love of all things veterinary, DO NOT LEAVE YOUR PET IN A PARKED CAR.
