You know, when we first started this journey, we never imagined it would turn into what it is today.
Like a lot of people in rescue, we thought we'd help a few animals, find them great homes, and keep doing what we could. But somewhere along the way, the numbers grew, the responsibilities grew, and before we knew it, there were tons of dogs and farm animals depending on us every single day.
And that's where things get real.
The food has to be bought whether donations come in or not. The animals still need care when it's raining, when it's 100 degrees outside, when it's freezing cold, and when we're exhausted. They don't know if it's been a good fundraising month or a bad one. They just know we're supposed to show up.
So we do.
Over the years, we learned something that wasn't easy to accept: we couldn't keep taking in more and more animals and still provide the quality of care the ones already here deserve. That's why we made the decision to become a refuge.
Not because the need isn't there.
Trust us, it is.
But because the animals already under our care made it here, and they deserve our full commitment. They deserve consistency. They deserve stability. They deserve people who won't leave when things get hard.
So that's our promise.
Whether it's rain, shine, mud, heat, cold, or anything in between, we'll be here for them. Tomorrow, next month, next year, and for however long they need us.
An important thing we've discovered along the way is that awareness is almost as valuable as donations.
Every time someone wears one of our shirts, they're helping tell our story. A stranger asks about it. Someone visits our page. Someone learns who we are. Someone shares a fundraiser. Someone becomes a supporter. Every new person who hears about Shaw Pit Bull Refuge gives these animals a better chance at a secure future.
