Sometimes grooming isn't about making a dog look pretty. Sometimes it's about making them comfortable again. ❤️

Yesterday, the Putnam County Dog Warden brought this sweet little girl to me after she had been found as a stray and never reclaimed.

I've seen my fair share of matted dogs over the years, but the condition of her little feet and legs was heartbreaking. 💔

I want to use her story as an opportunity to educate, because MATTING IS NOT JUST TANGLED HAIR.

🐾 Severe matting constantly pulls and tugs on the skin, causing pain with even the smallest movements.

🐾 Tight matting around the legs and feet can restrict movement, cause irritation, and make walking uncomfortable.

🐾 Matting can trap moisture, dirt, and bacteria against the skin, leading to sores and infections.

🐾 In severe cases, tightly wrapped matting can restrict circulation.

🐾 And sometimes, the true condition of the skin underneath isn't visible until that coat is removed.

PLEASE understand that regular grooming is not a luxury for dogs with coats that require maintenance. It is a NECESSITY.

I know life gets busy. I know grooming can be expensive. I know brushing isn't always easy. But allowing a dog to become severely matted can cause unnecessary pain and suffering.

And please, when your groomer tells you your dog needs to be shaved rather than brushed out, understand that we aren't being lazy. We aren't trying to ruin your dog's cute haircut.

We're choosing their comfort over their appearance.

This little girl didn't get to choose the condition she ended up in. And while I don't know what her life looked like before she was found, I do know she deserved to be comfortable.

At Heaven Sent Kennels, I will ALWAYS choose what's best for the dog sitting on my table, even if that means a less-than-perfect haircut.

Because at the end of the day, I'd rather send home a short-haired, comfortable dog than a fluffy dog who's suffering.

Heaven Sent Kennels grooming update 🐾💕

I’ve had a pretty big increase in grooming inquiries lately, and I truly appreciate everyone reaching out and recommending me. Word of mouth means a lot, especially for a small one-woman business like mine. 🥹
With that said, my schedule is only so big, and I’m going to be a little more selective with new grooming clients moving forward. I want to make sure I’m taking on dogs that are a good fit for my setup, my schedule, and the type of grooming I offer.
I’m not a big salon with a bunch of groomers and endless appointment slots — it’s just me, your dog, a whole lot of patience, and probably some baby talk. 😂🐶
I’d rather have a smaller schedule of dogs I know and love than overbook myself and rush through everyone.
I am still accepting new grooming clients, but availability is limited and not every appointment request will necessarily be a fit.
Small-town grooming, lots of love, Humanity over Vanity, and personal care from the same person every single visit. 💕🐾

Heaven Sent Kennels is ALWAYS happy to accept blankets, towels, gently used toys, and those treats or chews your dog took one sniff of and said, “Absolutely not.” 🤣

My boarders and my personal pack aren’t nearly as picky and LOVE getting spoiled with the extras! 🐶🦴💕

So before you toss it—send it my way! Around here, somebody will probably eat it, sleep on it, or destroy it. 😂🐾

🐾 Humanity Before Vanity 🐾

Just a friendly reminder I will not spend time dematting coats, tails, ears, or tangled hair around the face.

Even what seems like "just a few tangles" can be uncomfortable and stressful for your dog. Their comfort and well-being will always come before saving hair.

If removing tangles means causing pain, I'll always choose the kinder option—even if that means trimming the hair shorter. Hair grows back. ❤️

The best way to keep your pup fluffy is with regular brushing at home and routine grooming appointments. Thank you for understanding and for supporting my Humanity Before Vanity philosophy. 🐶💕

A huge thank you to everyone who booked with Heaven Sent Kennels! I truly appreciate your support and can't wait to spoil all of your pups while you're away.
