Meet Dr. Meyer!
Dr. Kelsey Meyer grew up in Rockville, MD, and knew from a young age that she wanted to become a veterinarian. After earning her DVM from St. George’s University in 2017, she began her career as an emergency veterinarian, developing a passion for soft tissue surgery and trauma cases.
We love having Dr. Meyer on the VivaVets team because she brings her valuable ER medicine experience and expertise to our urgent care setting, helping provide the high-quality care our patients need when they need it most.
Outside of the hospital, Dr. Meyer enjoys spending time with her husband and their rescued pets: Link the black Labrador, Zelda the Siamese cat, and Mushroom the Maine C**n. She also enjoys working on her native plant garden and playing video games, including The Witcher 3, The Horizon series, and Ori.
We’re so happy to have Dr. Meyer as part of the VivaVets team!

A Legacy of Trust, and What's Next for VivaVets Urgent Care 🐾

Few months ago, we opened our doors in Columbia with a simple goal: to be there for your pets when they need us most. Since then, so many of you have trusted us with your family members during their scariest moments, and that trust means more to us than we can put into words. Thank you.

Because of you, VivaVets has grown, and now we're looking to grow our team so we can keep showing up for more pets and more families across Howard County. We're not just filling seats. We're building a team of people who genuinely care about doing this work well, who want to grow with us, and who believe, like we do, that every pet has a story, and we want to be there with the fast, honest, skilled care, to be part of that story.

If you know someone (or if that someone is you) who wants to be part of a team built on trust, skill, and heart, we'd love to hear from you. Reach out or send us a message.

Kimani has been a Veterinary Assistant with the VivaVets team for the past 3 months, bringing experience in general practice, primary care, emergency medicine, and now urgent care. She holds a B.A. in Prevet Medicine and is currently working toward her Veterinary Technician certification.

One of Kimani’s favorite parts about working at VivaVets is learning new treatments for cases she didn’t often see in general practice. She enjoys expanding her knowledge every day while helping provide compassionate care to our patients.

When she’s not at the hospital, Kimani enjoys learning new languages, writing poetry, playing the piano and guitar, and spending time with her cat, Safari Rain.

We’re so happy to have Kimani as part of the VivaVets team!

This is your reminder that even your dog’s favorite toy can become a medical emergency.

One minute this pup was happily playing with his stuffed toy... the next, he had swallowed one of its legs.

Thankfully, his mom acted quickly and brought him straight to VivaVets. We were able to safely induce vomiting, and the toy leg came right back up before it had the chance to become a life-threatening intestinal blockage.

Stuffed toys are a great source of enrichment, but loose pieces like legs, squeakers, eyes, and stuffing can become dangerous if swallowed. Once a foreign object moves into the intestines, it can lead to an obstruction that may require emergency surgery.

If you think your pet has swallowed something they shouldn’t, don’t wait to see what happens. The sooner they’re evaluated, the more treatment options we have. In some cases, we can avoid surgery altogether.

Moments like this are why we do what we do.

Poor guy just couldn’t stop shaking his head🐶

This senior Lab came to VivaVets with a large ear hematoma caused by an underlying ear infection. His ear was painful, swollen, and making him pretty uncomfortable.

We treated the infection, placed a drain to help relieve the pressure, and got him started on the road to recovery.

And while he’s still rocking his bandage, he’s already feeling much more comfortable than when he first walked through our doors.

Moments like this are why we do what we do.

For Them, With You.

Walk-ins welcome.
Open daily from 10am–8pm (closed Wednesdays).
