๐Ÿˆ **Trapping a community cat? The right setup matters!**

Weโ€™ve recently had several feral/community cats arrive in traps that are too small, uncovered, or in cat carriers. Swipe through for a quick refresher on our trap requirements and why theyโ€™re important. ๐Ÿ‘‰

A few things to remember:

๐Ÿพ **Use an appropriately sized humane trap** โ€” ideally 30โ€“32" long, 10โ€“11" wide and about 12" tall, even for kittens. Cats should remain in their traps for up to 48 hours after surgery, so they need adequate room to recover.

๐Ÿพ **Line the bottom and keep the trap covered.** A sheet or towel helps reduce stress during transport and at the clinic. Less stress is especially important before anesthesia โ€” a frightened cat's adrenaline response can make sedation more difficult and require additional medication.

๐Ÿšซ **No cat carriers.** Our team can safely sedate a feral cat through the wire of a humane trap without handling them. Cats arriving in carriers **will be sent home and may incur a rescheduling fee.**

Our loaner traps are currently all checked out, so please make sure you have the proper equipment **before you trap.**

๐Ÿ’› And some good news: our **Feral Cat Package is currently FREE thanks to a generous ASPCA grant!** Regularly $40, the package includes surgery, rabies vaccine, ear tip, sterilization tattoo, subcutaneous fluids and 72-hour pain control.

Free appointments are available **while grant funds and appointment availability last.**

๐Ÿ“ž **Feral cat appointments must be scheduled by phone.**

Please share with your fellow community cat caregivers! ๐Ÿพ

WE HAVE RABIES!
..vaccines. We have rabies vaccines. ๐Ÿ˜…

Today is ! More than 90% of reported rabies cases in animals in the U.S. are found in wildlife โ€” including bats, skunks, raccoons and foxes.

Rabies is fatal once symptoms appear, but thankfully, it's preventable. Keeping our pets vaccinated helps protect them, us, and our community. And here in Columbia & Boone County, rabies vaccination is required for dogs and cats over 4 months old โ€” even indoor-only pets.

We offer affordable rabies vaccines with your pet's spay/neuter surgery and at our weekly vaccine clinics. ๐Ÿ’‰๐Ÿพ

Happy World Rabies Day.
