🐾 Happy National Trails Day! 🗺️🐕

Who is ready to hit the trails this summer? 🙋‍♀️ There is nothing better than exploring the great outdoors with your favorite four-legged hiking buddy. But before you and your pup lace up your hiking boots (or paws), let’s make sure you’re packed and prepared for a safe, fun adventure!

Here is your ultimate Trail Safety Checklist:
🎒 What to Pack:
Water, water, and more water! If you're thirsty, they are too. Bring a collapsible bowl and extra water just for them.

A pet first-aid kit. Include bandage wraps, tweezers, and pet-safe antiseptic.

High-value treats. Perfect for keeping their focus on the trail and rewarding great recall.
A sturdy, non-retractable leash. (Keeps them safe from sudden wildlife encounters!)

☀️ Watch for Overheating:
Dogs can't sweat like we do! Keep a close eye out for these warning signs:
Excessive, heavy panting or drooling
Bright red or pale gums
Lethargy, weakness, or refusing to walk

Tip: If the ground is too hot for the back of your hand for 7 seconds, it’s too hot for their paws!

🕵️‍♂️ The Post-Hike Tick Check:
Deer ticks love high brush. Before hopping back in the car, run your hands over your pup and pay extra close attention to these hidden spots:
In and behind the ears
Under the collar
In the armpits and groin area
Between the toes 🐾

Even with a thorough check, year-round flea and tick prevention is your best line of defense! If you're running low, give us a call before your next big hike.

💬 COMMUNITY CORNER: We want to know—where are the best pet-friendly views around town? 🌲✨ Drop your favorite local trails or a photo of your hiking buddy in the comments below! Let’s build the ultimate summer adventure list! 👇👇

"Human, I am 100% sustainably sourced and biologically necessary to this ecosystem." — Your pet, probably. 🐶🐱

It’s World Environment Day, and while our pets might not understand carbon footprints, they definitely appreciate a clean, green earth to explore! (And let's face it, they do their part by recycling 90% of their day into nap time). 😴

If you want to help them live a more eco-friendly lifestyle, try making the switch to biodegradable waste bags or seeking out toys made from recycled materials. Small changes by a lot of pet parents add up to a massive difference for our local parks and trails!

Drop a photo of your pet enjoying their favorite outdoor spot in the comments so we can celebrate the beautiful world they love to sniff! 🌸👇

School is out, the sun is shining, and summer adventures are officially here! ☀️
Whether your family is hitting the road for vacation or just enjoying extra backyard playtime, your pets will be spending a lot more time outdoors. Unfortunately, flea, tick, and mosquito season is also in full swing. 🦟🕷️

Before you pack the bags and head out, take a quick peek at your pet care cabinet. Are you fully prepared to keep your furry best friends protected this month?

📋 Your Summer Protection Checklist:
[ ] Flea & Tick Preventative: Administered and up to date?
[ ] Heartworm Prevention: Given on time to protect against infected mosquitoes?
[ ] Refills Ordered: Do you have enough doses to last through the summer months?
[ ] Up-to-Date Records: If you're boarding your pet or traveling, are their vaccines current?

Pro Tip: Set a recurring monthly alarm on your phone so you never miss a dose. Consistency is the best shield against those pesky summer pests!

☀️ HEATSTROKE IS A MEDICAL EMERGENCY ☀️
With temperatures rising, it only takes a few minutes for a pet to overheat. Unlike us, dogs and cats can’t sweat to cool down—they rely on panting, which isn't always enough in extreme heat.

🚨 WHAT TO WATCH FOR:

Heavy, frantic panting or difficulty breathing.

Bright red or purple gums and tongue.

Drooling that is thicker than usual.

Weakness, dizziness, or collapsing.

Vomiting or diarrhea.

🛑 IF YOU SUSPECT HEATSTROKE:

Move them to the shade or AC immediately.

Apply cool (not ice cold!) water to their fur and skin. Focus on the paws, chest, and neck.

Offer small sips of water, but don’t force them to drink.

CALL US IMMEDIATELY. Even if they seem to be cooling down, internal damage can happen quickly and needs to be assessed by a vet.

Don't wait—seconds count. 📌 SAVE THIS POST so you have these steps ready, and SHARE it to help keep the pets in our community safe this summer!

🌭 Memorial Day Weekend: Fun for You, Safe for Them!

The long weekend is almost here! Before you fire up the grill or head to the lake, take a second to check out our holiday hazard roundup. A little prep goes a long way in keeping your furry family members out of the ER!

🥗 BBQ "No-Go" Foods

Your pet might give you the "puppy eyes," but these common cookout staples can be dangerous:

Onions & Garlic: Whether raw, cooked, or in a marinade, these can damage red blood cells.

Bones & Corn on the Cob: Cooked bones splinter easily, and cobs are a major choking and obstruction risk.

Fatty Scraps: Trimmings from burgers or hot dogs can trigger pancreatitis (severe tummy trouble).

Grapes & Raisins: These are highly toxic and can lead to kidney failure.

Alcohol: Even a small amount is dangerous for pets—keep those cocktails out of reach!

☀️ Beat the Heat

With temperatures rising, watch for these signs of heat exhaustion:

Excessive Panting: Rapid, heavy breathing that doesn't stop with rest.

Bright Red Gums: A sign their body is working too hard to cool down.

Lethargy or Stumbling: If they seem dizzy or won't get up, act fast.

Drooling & Vomiting: Clear signs of physical distress.

Pro-Tip: If you suspect overheating, move them to the AC and use cool (not ice cold) water on their paws and belly. Give us a call immediately!

🎆 Firework Anxiety

The "boom" isn't fun for everyone. To keep them calm:

Create a Zen Den: A quiet, interior room with their favorite bed and a white noise machine or fan.

Keep 'em Inside: Even "chill" dogs can panic and bolt during loud noises. Ensure chips and tags are up to date!

Distraction is Key: A high-value treat or a frozen peanut butter toy can work wonders.

🗓️ Holiday Hours

To allow our hard-working team to spend time with their families, Two Notch Road Animal Clinic will be CLOSED on Monday, May 25.

If you have an emergency while we are away, please contact CVETS at 803 995 8813 or SCVSEC at 803 561 0015. We’ll be back to regular hours on Tuesday!

Have a safe and happy Memorial Day! 🐾🇺🇸

"But mom, I don’t even know any raccoons?!" 🦝🕵️‍♂️

Your pet might think they’re too sophisticated to hang out with local South Carolina wildlife, but accidents happen! Whether they spy a backyard squirrel, spot a curious nocturnal raccoon, or decide a stray bat looks like a fun indoor toy, exposure risks are real.

Because rabies is a 100% preventable but completely untreatable virus, South Carolina law requires all dogs, cats, and ferrets to stay current on their rabies shots.

Think of the rabies vaccine as your pet’s invisible superhero cape. It protects them, it protects you, and it keeps them on the right side of the law (because nobody wants a pet with a rap sheet 👮‍♂️🐶).

If you can't remember the last time your pet got their rabies booster, that’s your cue! Give us a call to check their records. 🗓️✨

🌪️ Disaster can strike when we least expect it. Is your whole family ready? 🐾

When making an emergency plan, it is incredibly easy to overlook our four-legged family members. If you had to evacuate your home in 15 minutes, would you have everything your pet needs to stay safe and healthy?

Don’t wait for severe weather or an emergency to scramble for answers. Use our Pet Emergency Checklist to build a "Go-Bag" for your furry best friend today:

Are you short on medication refills or need to verify your pet's microchip number? Give us a call at 803 788 7387. We are here to help you stay prepared!

💬 Drop a 🐾 in the comments if your pet's emergency kit is already packed, or let us know what you're adding to it today!

POV: It’s 2:00 AM, there’s a distant rumble of thunder, and suddenly there is a 70lb Golden Retriever sitting directly on your windpipe. ⛈️🐕‍🦺

We love a "velcro dog," but if your pup turns into a literal shadow (or a destructive tornado) the moment the rain starts or the mailman breathes, it might be more than just "personality."

Anxiety is real, and it’s exhausting for both of you. Let’s get them back to being their chill, goofy selves. Drop a "🐾" if you’ve ever been personally victimized by a thunderstorm-cuddler!
