When Jennifer first reached out, she was looking for help with her energetic 10-month-old puppy, Remi. Like many young dogs, Remi was doing whatever she wanted, whenever she wanted, with very little obedience or structure in place.

Fast forward to today, and Remi is a completely different dog. She now walks politely on leash, has a solid foundation in obedience, and can confidently be taken out in public without the stress and frustration that used to come with it.

I can train a dog all day long, but lasting results only happen when owners are willing to put in the work at home. Jennifer and her family did exactly that, and it shows.

Congratulations to Remi on graduating the Obedience Program! 🎓🐾

Most reactive dogs don’t actually need more freedom — they need more direction.

One of the biggest things that helps with dog reactivity and aggression is giving the dog a job to do.

Down stays.
Place work.
Structured heel walks.

All of these stop the dog from obsessing over the environment and start getting them focused back on the handler. A dog can’t fully commit to a job and be reactive at the same time.

But this is also why training progression matters. You can’t just throw a dog into a high-distraction environment and expect them to understand. First, you need to teach the behavior to a high level in a calm, low-distraction environment so the dog clearly understands what’s expected of them.

THEN you start holding the dog accountable around distractions.

That clarity is what builds confidence, structure, and reliability.

Obedience is more than commands — it’s teaching your dog how to properly exist in the world. 🐾

Turner first reached out shortly after bringing Willow home from the shelter. Willow had very little training, struggled with reactivity, and was having a hard time navigating the world around her.

We started with our Foundation Obedience Program to build clear communication and give Willow the structure she needed to succeed. Once that foundation was in place, Turner decided to continue into our Beyond the Leash Program.

Fast forward to today, and Willow has the freedom to go places with Turner confidently and reliably. Turner no longer has wonder if she’ll listen, react to other dogs, or make simple events turn stressful. Instead, Turner has a dog he can actually enjoy life with.

This transformation wasn’t just about obedience. It was about building a stronger relationship, clearer communication, and giving both Turner and Willow the confidence to enjoy more of life together.

Super proud of these two and all the work they put in. 👏🐾

Curious on how you should leave the house then? A lot of separation issues start because departures become an event.

The dog gets a speech.
The dog gets extra affection.
The dog gets reassured that everything is okay.

Instead, make departures routine.

Kennel the dog.
Leave the house.
Come back.

The less significance you give your departure, the less significance your dog gives it.

Departures should be uneventful!

If your dog only listens when you have treats, it’s because treats have become part of the command. When food disappears, your dog doesn’t suddenly become stubborn. They’ve just learned that listening is optional when the reward isn’t visible.

Real training isn’t teaching a dog to listen when you have food. It’s teaching them to listen whether you have food or not. That’s how you get reliability at home, in public, and eventually off leash.

Follow for real-life dog training tips.
