Big weekend project at our house. Our 2026 litter officially outgrew their whelping box, which means these babies are growing up fast.
So we did what any family does on a Saturday. We loaded up and headed to Lowe's for lumber. Paul ran the sander (Charlie jumped in to help), the boys measured and cut every board, and we turned a big part of our kitchen into one giant puppy pen.

Liberty approves. The puppies have room to roam, room to start weaning, and plenty of space for our kids to climb right in there with them. Hannah has already claimed her spot in the pen. That hands-on time from day one is the whole reason we raise them the way we do. Charlie was right there with Libby the day these babies were born, and now the whole crew is helping them grow up.

It is going to be a few weeks before we get our kitchen back. Around week six we will start crate and potty training, but for now this is home base. Eleven puppies, one very patient mama, and a houseful of helpers.

Worth every board.

There is nothing quite like feeding the pups out in the yard on a warm evening. We carried the pans out into the grass, settled in, and let them go to town.

It is a sweet kind of chaos. Faces buried in the pans, little tails going, the soft sound of eleven puppies all working on dinner at once. One of our merle babies got her whole face down in there and did not come up for air. Meanwhile one of the little red pups decided the clover was far more interesting than supper and went off exploring on his own.

The kids were right down in the grass with them the whole time, one hand always resting on a soft little back. By the time we were done, a couple of the pans were licked so clean you would not know there was ever food in them. These are the evenings we will remember from this litter, all of us out in the yard together here in Columbia, Tennessee.

Big milestone at the Spoerl house. The puppies had their very first real meal this week. We mix fresh organic raw goat milk from our friends farm with a little puppy kibble and turn it into a soft gruel the pups can lap up. Watching eleven little faces dive in for the first time is something the whole family looks forward to. It gets messy, it gets loud, and it is one of our favorite parts of raising these pups the right way here in Columbia, Tennessee. Liberty still checks in on every feeding, and the kids are right there helping out.

A little first this week at our house. The puppies got their very first taste of water, and it was every bit as cute as you would imagine. Lots of tiny paws, a few surprised faces, and one or two who decided the water bowl was more fun to stand in than drink from. Moments like this are our favorite part of raising these pups right here in our home in Columbia, Tennessee. Liberty is still keeping a close eye on everyone, and the kids have not left their side. More to come as they keep growing.

The evening wind down. πŸŒ™πŸΎ

Every night ends about like this. A tired puppy, a towel, and one of our kids more than happy to hold still for a while.

This is how they learn that people are safe and laps are the best. The Muletown way. 🫢

And just like that, they are puppies. 🐾

The wrestling has officially begun. This week our litter started tumbling over each other, play biting, and figuring out that those other little bodies in the box are siblings to chase. It happens almost overnight. One day they are sleeping in a pile, the next they are rolling around like tiny wild things.

This is one of our favorite stages. All this early play is how they learn bite control, balance, and how to read each other, the building blocks of a well adjusted dog. And of course our kids are right there in the middle of it. Family raised in Columbia, every single day.

Follow along to watch them grow. 🐾

There is a certain hour every evening when the whole house slows down. The kids drift outside or onto the porch, scoop up a puppy, and just sit. No agenda. Just a warm little body falling asleep in their arms.

This is the part of raising puppies that people do not always see. It is not just feeding and cleaning. It is the holding. The quiet. The way our kids instinctively cradle a tired puppy in a towel and let it nap against them for an hour without a second thought.

These babies are learning something important in moments like these. They are learning that people are safe, that hands are gentle, and that a lap is a good place to be. That is the foundation of a calm, confident family dog, and it starts right here at home in Columbia.
Liberty and Junior gave us such a sweet group this year, and our kids have not missed a single evening with them. 🐾

From their very first days, these puppies have never known a quiet house. They have been held, talked to, and loved on by our four kids from the moment they were born, right here in our home in Columbia.

Every evening looks a little like this. Someone is always sitting in the grass with a lap full of puppies, or curled up on the couch while a tired little one falls asleep on their chest. This is how we raise them. Hands on, every single day.

We believe a puppy that grows up inside the noise and love of a busy family becomes a calmer, braver, more people loving dog. That part cannot be faked. It comes from being part of a family from day one.

Liberty and Junior gave us another beautiful litter this year, and watching our kids pour their hearts into these babies has been our favorite part of the whole season. More little faces coming tomorrow. 🐾
