Hi, I'm Harley!

I'm looking for a family that can keep up with my playful side and appreciate my professional-level napping skills.

My favorite things include playing fetch, getting scratches behind my ears, and curling up in my crate for a cozy snooze after a busy day. Speaking of crates, I'm already crate-trained and potty-trained, so I've got some of the important stuff figured out.

I've lived with children and another dog before, and while I'm ready for my next adventure, I'm hoping to find a patient and active family who will help me settle into my new home.

If you're looking for a best friend who can be your playmate, walking buddy, and couch companion all in one, I think we should meet.

What do you say? Could my new home be with you?

WOW. You did it.

Yesterday, during our very first Day of Giving, this incredible community came together for animals in a big way. Thanks to your generosity, we raised more than $42,500 to support homeless, injured, and vulnerable pets right here in our community. And the first $25,000 of that was matched by Hill’s Pet Nutrition!

Because of you, animals like Dixie will receive the medical care, second chances, and love they deserve.

Every donation, every share, every comment, and every person who helped spread the word made a difference. We are especially grateful to Hill's Pet Nutrition for their generous matching gift, which helped your support go even further for animals in need.

The impact of your kindness will be felt long after yesterday. It will be felt in every wagging tail, every healing patient, every safe night's sleep, and every happy adoption story still waiting to be written.

From all of us at Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region—and from the thousands of animals who will benefit from your compassion—thank you for making our first Day of Giving such a success.

We couldn't do this work without you.

When she arrived at HSPPR, Dixie weighed just 25 pounds and was too weak to walk on her own. She was severely underweight, dehydrated, and anemic. Our veterinary team provided intensive medical care, carefully monitored her recovery, and celebrated every small victory along the way.

Every meal mattered. Every pound gained was a milestone.

But what never changed was Dixie's sweet spirit and determination.

Dixie received the care she needed to heal at HSPPR because donors like you step up when we need it most. Today, she weighs more than 40 pounds and is thriving in foster care, surrounded by love and looking forward to her bright future.

Today, you can help create more stories like Dixie's.

On HSPPR's first Giving Day, your gift will provide medical treatment, shelter, food, enrichment, and second chances for animals who need us most. And thanks to Hill’s Pet Nutrition, your donation will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $25,000.

Will you help us make twice the impact for animals in the Pikes Peak Region today?

Together, we can turn stories of hardship into stories of hope.

When Dixie arrived at HSPPR, she was so weak she couldn’t walk on her own.

She was only two years old and weighed just 25 pounds.

Our veterinary team discovered she was severely underweight, dehydrated, and anemic.

She needed immediate medical care, careful monitoring, and a specialized feeding plan to help her recover safely. Staff carried her when she couldn't make it over curbs, monitored every meal, and celebrated every pound she gained.

Through it all, Dixie never stopped wagging her tail.

Dixie received the medical care, compassion, and second chance she deserved at HSPPR. Today, she weighs more than 40 pounds and is thriving in a loving foster home.

But we can’t do it alone. Tomorrow, your gift can help write the next success story.

Thanks to Hill’s Pet Nutrition's generous $25,000 match, your donation will have twice the impact for animals like Dixie.

Join us tomorrow and help us make our first Day of Giving a lifesaving success. Make your donation at https://secure.qgiv.com/for/2026annualgivingdaysocial/

It’s time for your weekly dose of Hand-Picked Cats!

These kitties are truly something special, so we’ve gone full fairy godmother mode and waived their adoption fees to help them find their new homes! Meet the fabulous felines of the week and help us shout their names from the rooftops (or, more realistically, your group chats, DMs, and anywhere cat people gather). Swing by our Colorado Springs shelter to meet them in person, or fall in love from afar at hsppr.org/pets.

Our Handpicked-Cats are brought to you by our friends at Petco Love

Let’s get these cuties home, they’ve got naps to take, snacks to demand, and lives to change.

The car ride was fun at first.

I thought we were going somewhere exciting. Maybe a pup cup. Maybe the park. Maybe one of those stores where humans somehow spend $87 and still leave without the thing they came for.

Then the car stopped.

My person said, “I’ll only be a minute.”

At first, I didn’t mind. I watched people walk by. I sniffed the seats. I waited.
But then the air got thick.

The sunshine coming through the windows started to feel different. Heavy. My tongue got really dry, even though I was panting as hard as I could. The seat underneath me got hot. My paws got hot. Everything got hot.

I barked a little.

Then I barked a lot.

But after a while, I didn’t really have the energy anymore.

That’s when someone noticed me.

They called Animal Law Enforcement, and an officer came fast. She opened the door and scooped me up and immediately started helping me cool down. The dashboard inside the car had reached 119 degrees. Even the back seat was dangerously hot.

Outside, it didn’t even seem that hot.

But cars heat up terrifyingly fast. On a 75 degree day, the temperature inside a vehicle can climb to deadly levels in less than 30 minutes. Cracking the windows doesn’t protect us. Shade shifts. Air stops moving. And dogs can suffer heatstroke before people realize how serious it is.

Some dogs don’t survive.

Please, if you’re running errands and pets can’t come inside with you, leave them safely at home with water and air conditioning. They would much rather nap on the couch than risk their life in a parked car.

And please remember: leaving a pet in a dangerously hot car can be considered criminally negligent.

If you see an animal trapped in a hot vehicle, call Animal Law Enforcement immediately at 719-302-8798. If the animal appears unconscious or in severe distress, call 911.

You could be the reason a scared, overheated dog gets to go home safely.

Please share this reminder. It could save a life this summer.

Some family reunions are worth barking about.

Last year, Millie and Maverick were just two puppies in the same litter looking for homes. Both were adopted from HSPPR in 2025 and started their new lives with separate families.

Fast forward to 2026, and Millie found herself back at the shelter through no fault of her own.

When one of our staff members realized that Millie's brother, Maverick, was living with a family who had also adopted from that same litter, they decided to make a call.

The moment Maverick's owner learned that his sister was at the shelter, she didn't hesitate. She was excited about the chance to reunite the siblings and came to HSPPR on Thursday to adopt Millie.

Now, after more than a year apart, these brother-and-sister pups are back together again.

We don't know if Millie and Maverick remembered each other right away, but we do know this: Millie got her happy ending, Maverick got his sister back, and our staff got one of those moments that makes everyone smile.

Join us in celebrating this sweet reunion!

If it waddles like a duck and follows Animal Law Enforcement around like he's handing out concert tickets... it might be a domestic duck.

Recently, Animal Law Enforcement Officers Anderson and Brienza-Jenkins teamed up to rescue six domestic ducks from two different locations. Unfortunately, there were even more ducks at those locations that they were unable to safely contain.

Officer Anderson was trying to lure the domestic ducks to safety with food and quickly found himself leading an entire feathered entourage.

While it may seem like ducks can simply fend for themselves at local ponds, domestic ducks are not wild ducks. Many lack the survival skills needed to thrive on their own and can face challenges finding food, avoiding predators, and surviving harsh weather conditions.

If you can no longer care for pet ducks, please don't release them. Abandoning domestic animals puts them at risk and creates challenges for local wildlife and our community.

Need help rehoming a pet? Reach out before turning them loose. A little planning can make all the difference for animals who depend on people for care.

And to the ducks who formed Officer Anderson's fan club: we're glad you made it to safety.

Now’s your chance to find out.
