Today Curi went with 4 other service dogs to a fire station. It was a great experience for him. He was a little anxious about the truck when it was running, but was willing to climb aboard. He's fine with helmets, but turn out coats and pants are a little scary.

Since giant schnauzers are protective dogs by nature, one of my goals since he came home was to train him not just for me. I want friends, family, and first responders to be able to manage him just as easily as I can. Curi let two different firemen just grab his leash from me and walk off, no words exchanged, no me telling him to go with the nice man, just, "Oh, you have my leash now? I shall follow you." Curi was very good. He's still doing a startle bark when someone new enters the room, but he's managing himself very well otherwise.

Afterward we went to Lowes and Petsmart for snacks. At Lowes I told a man I was talking to, he could pet Curi. It seemed like the man needed it. He was instantly on the floor, arms thrown around Curi going for as much doggy affection as possible. Bless poor Curi. He managed to play therapy dog for a few minutes, and I think the man and Curi are both better for it.

Curi feels about ramps, A frames, dog walks and even tables the way feels about tunnels. We were walking around at an outdoor dog market today and Curi spied plastic grass and a blue and yellow painted ramp. He pulled hard so he could get to it and run up the ramp.

It was a co****le board.

This did not diminish how proud he was of himself.

The dog pool went up today with the help of a good friend. Spy has gotten brave enough to go in the pool! She's not super into it like Curi is, but she'll hop right in after our fish.

I think we need more fish. Spy and Curi do not want to share!

You all know Spy has been a bit of a mess due to her history and we're working hard on learning to dog and learning how to learn. She doesn't use her front paws for exploring toys or even holding a Kong steady for licking. She just chases it and uses her mouth, contorting herself as it rolls.

We have been working on "give paw" as a precursor to paw targeting. I'm using "give paw" as a command insteqd of shake so we are also building household button vocabulary, paw.

She lifted her paw off the ground on her own before I touched it! This is a huge break through!

Curi has said he doesn't love Kaia today and that Kaia is bad, which used like that generally means rude or mean.

Ideas on having household peace again? No dog training classes or books I've read have tackled quite this kind of multidog household problems.

and and since we were talking about this on the fish's video. Kaia is just laying there doing her rug impersonation and he's mad about it!

Throwback to 3 years ago when Curiosity was first learning to open doors on command. Now, I just take this skill for granted. I can have my arms full trying to bring groceries in and just ask him to go ahead and get the door for me.

You'll notice there are no buttons on the floor. 3 years ago, Curi had not yet learned to talk.

Kaia's full name is Kaia the Kaizen Kaiser, Kaizen meaning constantly improving. That was always our thing, me and my Kaizie, learning and growing together in dog training and communication. Learning never stops, and each day is a chance to go further than before.

So, related to that, please see my garden. Last year and this year I put out my tomato starts on May 22. Last year I had 1 bed, and this year 2 beds. I find the comparison between these pictures wild. You can see how the soil health has improved. Both years it is onions in the middle, then rows of tomatoes, then basil along the edge. This year I started my seeds earlier, particularly the basil, and it really shows!

Here's hoping we have a lot of wonderful summer days in the garden and just maybe I grow and can enough tomatoes that I can go a full year without buying any tomatoes or tomato products!

The cheese tax is real. If he asks, and it's food that is safe for him, he does get a little taste.

Emphasis on the LITTLE. That's good cheese and I don't want to share!
