This is how far we made it into movie night before Curi started crying about the invasion of the ceiling people. We checked out FernGully from the library in Tim Curry's honor. Curi did settle in to watch fairly quickly. He's less upset about animation than live action. Live action with men running really upsets him.

September 2022, I bought my first pack of buttons and tried them with Kaia. She picked up on PEANUT immediately, became obsessed, and refused to use any other buttons. I gave up and put them away.

Then along came Curi, who shortly after his first birthday broke the jingle bells on the back door. I pulled out those 4 old buttons and he took to them immediately, so, frustrated with the poor sound quality, I placed my first FluentPet order for just a few buttons.

Curi's first four words were OUTSIDE, TREATS, PLAY, and TREADMILL. I knew he wanted real walks, but it was well below freezing and I didn't want to be going on walks outside. In less than a week, Curi started combining his buttons to ask for TREADMILL OUTSIDE. I was confused at first, "Curi we cannot take the treadmill outside! Treadmill walk inside!" And then it hit me. He wanted to walk outside.

I still refused to go for a walk at 23°F on slippery ice with a huge puppy who would pull me over, but I did immediately order a 32 pack of buttons since clearly Curiosity had a lot more he wanted to say than just the 4 words I'd given him.

For those who are new here, Kaia was his best friend who passed a few weeks ago.

For the regulars, do you notice the lack of howling! It's amazing.

I need some ideas on what to do with this yarn! Knit, crochet, and woven design ideas welcome in the comments!

I just finished spinning this yarn. It's 60% Blue Faced Leicester wool and 40% Bombyx silk. I have 836 yards at 3,022 yards per pound. This is a thread-fine laceweight yarn.

Here's the thing. This is special yarn. Long ago, when my first schnauzer was dying, a friend ran a fundraiser for my new service dog. That friend bought me Kaia, Kaia's work harness, and some supplies. Once Kaia was trained, we planned a trip to California and were hoping to meet my friend.

We had never met in person.

My friend died suddenly. Kaia and I never got to meet her, though we did still take a road trip to California. This fiber was dyed as a rememberance to my friend, Joy. Joy was a moderator of a group of folks online that I count among my closest friends, a group of fiber artists. We all got a bit of this fiber.

Losing Kaia hit me with a lot of the loss of Joy all over again. She stayed up all night with me on some of the worst nights of my life, knitting and crying on a video call together. Whike mouring Kaia, it seemed like it was finally time to spin up my Joy fiber into yarn.

Now I have no idea what to make with it. It's so fine and delicate. The fragile threads that hold us together across distance and time.

Maybe knit semi-circular shawl? It doesn't seem right for a pillow, but I want something huggable.

It's the grunts the entire time he's pressing buttons that just slays me. He's very frustrated with me. Curiosity is so upset that I p**p in the house. He doesn't seem upset when I p*e, but how dare I p**p inside. It's amazing though to see him use the same languqge with me that I used with him as a puppy.

Curi has no soup button, but soup is water full of Kim food smell 😂

If you also have a surplus of homegrown onions this time of year, I highly recommend it (but not for dogs with all the onion!)

Everything is measured with your heart.
Melt some butter and cook some onions and an equal volume of green onions. Salt and pepper to taste. Once the onions go clear, add broth. I used chicken flavor better than boullion and water. Once that boils, add diced potato. When the potato is soft, stick blender the whole thing. Add cream. Eat with toast. It'd be amazing with a few slices of a pan fried sausage on top, but I'm out right now.

This is some Gulf Coast Native sheep wool. I'm working on a project and collecting as many breeds of sheep wool as I can. There are less than 2,000 sheep of this breed left worldwide!

Curiosity thinks we need a couple sheep friends. I have informed him the cost of fencing, vet care, feed, and a 3 sided shed for bad weather is so far out of the budget he needs to forget the idea of sheep friends.

My dog has requested that no more friends ever leave because he loves his friends. 😭

Does anyone have any good book recommendations on helping young kids process grief? I would not turn down a picture book for him or some guidance on talking to young kids about loss.

I've been avoiding garden chores, housework, and errands. Today I made it as far as the garden and watered and harvested the ready to harvest onions. I pulled up 50 onions. I've now got half the green onions in my dehydrator. I run the other half tomorrow and then work on making dehydrated minced onions to last all year for soups and beans.

I dropped a few little green onions on the ground and Curi started eating one. Onions are toxic to dogs. Living with a talking dog is weird. Normally, yelling "leave it" and grabbing food from the dog's mouth would be nomal. With Curi I gave him words with more meaning. "No! Bad food. Curi sick food."

He spit it out and left the kitchen. He "No want Curi sick." A "leave it" command would leave him wanting to sneak more. Knowing it would make him sick has him happily leaving it for good.

Nothing in any dog books prepared me to handle this. I stopped my work in the studio and just held him and cried with him until he stopped howling. It took a while. Then I gave him a huge dried fish to crunch on. I might have him nibble some of Kaia's CBD treats to help him relax. I just don't want him hurting this much.
