Welcome Briar to the pack.
Briar is a 3 year old Boykin Spaniel joining us for board and train. He’s a really cool little dog and a sweet guy, but his owner was getting nervous about his recall around cars, and walks had turned into a full-time pulling contest.
Around cars, Briar gets this weird mix of unsure and excited, which makes his recall unreliable in those moments. Add prey animals into the mix and he gets a little selective with his hearing too. On walks, he pulls constantly — to the point that he’ll even crouch while walking to put more pressure into it. His owner has been using a harness because he doesn’t like seeing Briar choke himself on a collar, but like a lot of dogs, Briar actually pulls even harder in it.
He’s also a bit of an opportunist when food is around, so we’ll be cleaning up the food theft too.
The goal for Briar is reliable recall everywhere, no more pulling, a clear walk command, and better manners around food. We’ve also been told he has a signature move where he kicks one leg out to the side when he sits down like a little kickstand, so I’m looking forward to seeing more of that.
Glad to have you here, Briar.
