This las 6 weeks, even more so than the last several months we've delt with so many malicious issues, has brought me to tears, but only a couple, as I'm now filled with rage! We are currently investigating a massive series of animal abuse and theft cases including the attacks on animals in our care, as Fosters for originally 11 pups born into Rocky Mountain Animal Rescue & Rehab, in Parsons, KS. While attempting to organize our third chapter here, we took in a Boxer who became pregnant by one of our own adoptive fosters. These wonderful 11 puppies, according to our bylaws, were slated for service in the community and held promise of a great deal of desperately needed funding for the rescue.
4 of these became sick, and we were unable to save them, post-mortem, discovering 3 had been poisoned. Of the 7 left, we had 3 on the way to recovery also from poisoning, and approached by a stranger claiming to be from a local rescue, with intimate knowledge of our construction project house that only someone who had been invited in will full access would've had claiming that the dogs were thin, and that we are obviously unable to care for them, especially since we can't take care of ourselves... pointing at the house and yard under renovation.
I assured the gentleman, and the woman with him the dogs were fine, and get plenty of food, and that we "run and animal rescue". This man grinned, turned away and they drove off... having to handle similar situations, I already knew it would be, police, animal control, and then the media showing up to our door. I've attached the video the news crew posted, and we moved our plans of moving them back to Colorado up by nearly a month, however, we had to take them out of the city until then, which gave us a break and time to work on their outdoor training. With only 2 days until we were to make the trip back to Colorado Springs, our vehicle was sabotaged, by someone cutting a fusible link to the ignition coils, and pouring sand in the crankcase. The only place we could take the vehicle was back to the house in town, where we were soon met by animal control who this time took all 9 dogs in our possession and sited me with animal cruelty. We go before Municiple court Wednesday, however one of our local Kansas volunteers contacted the vet and animal hospital where animal control takes their animals, and was told that they all contracted parvo and had to be put down.
We are currently seeking legal counsel, not for the ticket, but for advice as to continue our work to establish our 3rd chapter in Kansas, or to continue our investigation in efforts to pursue criminal charges against the city and organizations responsible. We also need your help should the information given to our volunteer be false, in getting these babies home to Colorado Springs for their service training. Our POV (personally operated vehicle) for the Fire Rescue Division of Rocky Mountain Animal Rescue & Rehab is now out of commission, and our other POV used primarily for the Rescue Division is in need of a full set of tires, and front end repairs.
Our plans for fundraising and grant writing efforts have been put on hold for all divisions, and unfortunately, ALL CHAPTERS, until we can get to the bottom of all of this.
For those of you who are unaware, we have always supplemented all of our dog and cat food with fresh meat and fats as per our Veterinary Direction. We constantly carry a minimum of 10 gallons of filtered water and are ready for nearly every animal related emergency... This was an attack. Nothing else. Possible by another animal welfare organization who perceived us as a "competitor", but more so, we fear by several individuals we have linked to an underground animal testing laboratory. Toxicology confirmed methamphetamines, silica, and arsenic were used to poison these dogs, as well as several other puppies we've cared for over the last 8 months.
We need help. We need YOUR help!
Since 2002, we have NEVER seen this level of theft and abuse.
Sincerely,
James J. Spangler, Founder, Fire Chief
