We can give any that haven’t found a forever home yet, one that they are treated as family and have a great quality of life, not just a kennel and run. We stand for putting an end to the war, pursue with law enforcement every case of abuse and neglect, while pressing charges, attending court to put a stop to this circle of pain. We want to see a day that we are no longer needed. We fight for these poor babies; we won’t give up no matter how hard and long the battle is.

🚨💧 YOUR DOG HAS WATER. THAT DOESN’T MEAN THEY’RE DRINKING ENOUGH.

Let’s talk about your dog’s water bowl.

How often do you ACTUALLY wash it?

Not top it off.
Not dump it and rinse it.
Actually wash and scrub it.

Run your finger around the inside. Feel that slime?

That’s biofilm. 🤢

Biofilm is made up of microorganisms, including bacteria, that attach to surfaces and form a protective layer. A quick rinse may NOT remove it.

Then we pour fresh water right back into a contaminated bowl.

I’ve worked in veterinary medicine and have seen dogs come into the clinic severely dehydrated despite having water available because their bowl or water was so dirty they weren’t drinking enough.

A few licks does NOT mean your dog is properly hydrated.

Some dogs will drink only the bare minimum they’ll tolerate from dirty or stale water.

WATCH THEM.

Do they take a few licks and walk away?

Do they suddenly CHUG when you scrub the bowl and give them fresh water?

Dogs have an incredible sense of smell. Water that seems “fine” to us may be much less appealing to them.

And dehydration can become DEADLY. Severe dehydration affects circulation, temperature regulation, kidneys and normal organ function.

💧 WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?

🧼 Wash bowls DAILY when possible with hot, soapy water.
🚫 Stop topping off old water. Dump it and refill it.
🔥 Dishwasher-safe bowls? Use the dishwasher.
🦠 Sanitize appropriately and rinse thoroughly. NEVER mix bleach, vinegar or other cleaners.
🥣 Stainless steel or quality ceramic is easier to keep clean than scratched plastic.
⛲ Fountains can encourage drinking, but they need regular cleaning too.

Most importantly: pay attention to how much your dog actually drinks.

If they suddenly drink significantly less, refuse water or show signs of dehydration, contact your veterinarian.

Now go stick your finger inside that water bowl.

Slimy?

WASH. THE. DAMN. BOWL.

Something this simple shouldn’t be why a dog ends up severely dehydrated in a veterinary clinic.

💧 Clean bowl. Fresh water. Every day.

Both of their locations have helped us get our dogs seen by displaying flyers for our available pups AND keeping WRS donation boxes out for anyone who wants to throw a little love our way.

And he’s not finished yet.

We’re going to keep helping Maximus fully blossom until the day comes when we get to hand him over to the family who was meant to love this giant goober forever. 💙
