Deaf dogs are more common than most people realize, and many look and act no different than any other dog. Hearing loss can be present from birth or develop gradually with age, and certain breeds, including Dalmatians, Australian Shepherds, and some terriers, are more likely to be born at least partially deaf.

Watch for signs like not responding to their name, sleeping more deeply than usual, or startling easily. When approached with guided training and meaningful adjustments to care, you can create a safe environment where they can be happy, safe, and at peace.

September is National Service Dog Month, a time to recognize the incredible dogs who help people navigate daily life with greater confidence, independence, and support.

Behind every service dog is a remarkable journey. From puppyhood through advanced training, these dogs spend months, and often years, learning specialized skills tailored to their future partner's needs. Whether guiding, alerting, retrieving, or assisting with daily tasks, service dogs are highly trained working animals dedicated to helping their handlers thrive.

This month, take a moment to learn more about the important roles service dogs play and how you can help them stay focused when you encounter them in public by visiting the link below.
