Established in 1982, The General Store is a family-owned and operated business that makes a point of treating everyone, vendors and customers alike, as family. The relationships we have forged over the past 35 years allow us to offer only the best products for pets and wild birds. All of our products must meet a simple standard: they have to be something we would happily take home to our own pets. Every pet deserves the best, and we take great pride in offering exceptional values every day. Our own values wouldn't let us do it any other way. We love our pets, and we love pet lovers. The Advent calendar boxes have arrived and we’re in the home stretch of planning something great. We can’t tell you all the details quite yet, but we can share this much:

Last year we made a great thing even better with no chicken, by-products, corn, wheat, or soy but kept the same price.

Since 1982, we've been on the cutting edge of pet nutrition. Sometimes that means cutting a brand loose when it stops earning its place on our shelves.

This invoice from May 1989 was our first order for a certain brand. There were good reasons we were excited to carry it then. There are better reasons we don't anymore. It's far from the only brand we've left in the past.

That leaves out a lot of popular brands, but we're never satisfied with anything less than the best.

We think companies 100% dedicated to making pet food are the ones we should trust. So we start at the top: we don't carry pet food made by a small part of some giant consumer products conglomerate.

We've seen a lot of things since 1982, but we haven't exactly seen a lot of you. By our best estimates, roughly 98% of dog-owning households in Collinsville buy their dog food elsewhere.

But we're still here.

I could say we're Collinsville's best kept secret... except the word seems to have gotten out. We have regulars from Fairview Heights, Troy, Highland, Edwardsville, Maryville, even St. Charles, St. Peters. I could go on, but it would take dog years to list them all.

If you have a pet-loving friend who still doesn't know we're here, do them a favor and mention us. Every pet deserves the best.
