I can’t miss an opportunity to talk about how proud I am of my heart and soul dog, Wesley!
I’ve put a lot of work into training Wes so he could work alongside me and help rehab client dogs. Even at 8 weeks old, he just had it — that hard-to-describe “good boy” quality that made me believe he was going to be something special. With a lot of training, he became everything I hoped for and so much more.
Now at 8 years old, he still blows my mind every time he helps me with a client dog. 🥹🐶
Getting his cancer diagnosis in December has really put into perspective how lucky I am to have him. I know our time together is limited, and because of that, I’m cherishing every single moment we have left. ❤️
Yesterday, Wesley joined me for a session with a leash-reactive dog named Sunday. Wes spent the entire session off leash, heeling perfectly, holding down/stays from a distance, recalling on command, and serving as the perfect neutral distraction.
Sunday and her owner did an awesome job working through the session — practicing heeling past Wes, delivering properly timed corrections for the “looking, locking, and loading” phase before a reaction, and staying consistent. By the end of the session, Sunday was noticeably more relaxed and comfortable passing Wes and other distractions without exploding.
Big wins all around. 💙
And as always, I owe so much of that success to my best friend. Thanks for being the dog you are, Wes. 🤎
