Jaw entrapment is one of the many reasons we do not recommend giving your dogs bones to chew on!
This pup was placed under sedation and had the bone safely removed.
Other reasons why bones should be avoided include:
- Broken teeth
- Injury to the tongue, cheek, or soft palate
- Injury to the throat or esophagus
- Choking
- Injury to the stomach and intestinal lining
- Obstruction of the digestive tract
- Gastrointestinal upset
Some say raw bones are a "safer" option for dogs, but they still pose the same risks we mentioned and should also be avoided.
