Dallas - Fort Worth Dachshund Rescue The DFW Dachshund Rescue Foundation rehabilitates and re-homes abandoned, discarded, and surrendered dachshunds in the Dallas - Fort Worth area.

We are staffed solely by volunteers, and are supported by donations and adoption fees. The Dallas-Fort Worth Dachshund Rescue Foundation is a well-established 501(c)3 organization with a history of providing dachshund related education and service to the DFW community. If you are looking to adopt or purchase a dachshund, have dachshund related training or behavior questions, or need to place your

dachshund, we may be able to assist you. If not, we will make every effort to find you someone who can. Dachshunds in our program are fully vetted before adoption. This includes being altered, receiving all needed immunizations, having a dental cleaning and being microchipped. Any other medical issues the dog has will also be addressed before being adopted. Our dachshunds are placed in foster homes while they undergo rehabilitation and await adoption. This allows us to better evaluate the personalities of each dog, which provides a better match for potential adopters. While in their foster homes, the dachshunds are socialized, given plenty of love and praise, and some begin to pick up basic housetraining skills and obedience.

Congratulations to Truman; who found a wonderful home with former adopters. Truman came from a home where the owner had dementia, and he had been hugely overfed and had not had the opportunities to get out in the world that are so important to a dog. He came in at 20 pounds, and lost down to a healthy 14 pounds. Weight loss and a thorough professional grooming and many life experiences while in rescue turned him into a new dog! Congratulations Truman! Live long and prosper!

Tonight we remember "Juliet" who passed away on May 12th. She had an amazing life with her adopters and we know you will appreciate reading the beautiful eulogy they prepared to remember their very special dachshund--along with a poem. We have included some of Juliet's original pictures that were taken back then by the amazing Teresa Berg. We were honored to read this eulogy and wanted to share it with our supporters here on Facebook.

UPDATE: We found a sanctuary home with one of our current adopters, so all is well. The dog will go to them once all her vet work is complete, and she needs quite a bit, so please keep Bailey in your thoughts.

If you are a current or former DFW Dachshund Rescue adopter, and would consider giving a sanctuary home to a standard red longhair senior female dachshund, please let us know. In this type of case, the vet care would be fully provided by the foundation (but would have to be received at our Flower Mound vet, so consider where you live as to whether that is feasible). Owner is now in a nursing home and there is no family and no original breeder who can take the dog. Lovely temperament; has been shown in her early years.

Some families see a cycle of drug abuse and mental illness that they know too well and are following the murder case with dread: Could this happen to us?

And further good news this Sunday! Miss Bubbles found the perfect home with a couple that was ready for a new dachshund to join their home! As soon as she met this couple, Bubbles knew they were "her people". She has since settled right into her new home, and loves helping with the gardening (mainly inspecting what might be under various rocks!) and cooking! We are so happy for Bubbles! Live long and prosper!

Happy news this Sunday! Nala (now renamed "Layla) found a lovely home with a couple who is very experienced with dachshunds. They had been looking for a dachshund on the smaller side, and Nala was just right for them! She loves being an only dog in her new home (though she was great with the other dogs in her foster home) and adores having two human beings to dote on her. And she loves all her toys! We are so happy for Nala (Layla)! Live long and prosper!
