This sweet little girl is Eloise. A neighbor in Kernersville found her and was able to trap her. She and her sister each took in a bunny - with no experience - just kind hearts and enough gumption realize that “someone needs to help” wasn’t going to be anyone but them.
We were completely at capacity, but we wanted to help any way we could. The sisters came by the shop today and we were able to check genders, provide tick and mite treatment, and give some bunny care tips.
More and more bunnies have continued to show up in the neighborhood and the situation is beyond out of hand. Our volunteers have caught 5 more bunnies and we’re actively working to catch more. We don’t have the space or the financial support to take on another big group, but who else? Unfortunately some of the bunny friends have already lost their lives 😔 Domestic rabbits absolutely cannot survive long term on their own.
If you want to be a part of putting a little good back in the world, we would love to have you join us as a volunteer or a Fairy Godparent ✨

Our Summer Teen Rescue Teams are one of my favorite things we do and I have not done a good job promoting it this year 😬 Please help by sharing this with someone who may be interested! There are three phases through June & July and teens are welcome to join for any or all! (Dates posted in comments.) They will be hands on with all the animals - rabbits, goats, sheep, peacocks and more - working hard to rescue animals and build habitats, while earning community service hours. We are building an entire rabbit playground this year! Plus they will meet and interact with rescue and animal care professionals.
The fee covers materials and team shirt.
Right now a group from our 2022 team is out working to catch pet bunnies dumped in a neighborhood. So you may just find your people too! 🔨🐇🐐🦚👩🏼‍🤝‍👨🏽

11 rabbits loose in a neighborhood near a busy road. How does something like this happen?

A lot of people have asked how rabbits end up in situations like this.

Usually, it doesn’t start with bad intentions. A rabbit escapes. More rabbits are born. The situation grows faster than someone can manage.

In this case, several domestic rabbits ended up loose in a neighborhood.

Over the past few days, volunteers have spent hours sitting quietly in yards, earning trust, coordinating with neighbors, and safely bringing rabbits into care.

So far:

🐇 7 rabbits have been caught
🐇 2 are now with neighbors
🐇 5 have entered rescue
🐇 At least 4 more remain loose, including 2 babies

Today the rabbits in our care have fresh hay, clean water, safe shelter, and people looking out for them.

What surprises us most is that this is the third large rabbit rescue situation we’ve responded to within just a few miles of Fairytale Farm.

The growing number of animals needing help isn’t a problem happening somewhere else. It’s happening right here in our community 😔

We’ll keep searching for the rabbits still out there and share updates as the rescue continues ❤️

We counted 7. 🤬 I said a bad word.
Over the last several days, we’ve received multiple messages about domestic rabbits running loose in a Kernersville neighborhood.

I drove through to see for myself and immediately spotted seven rabbits near a main road.

Domestic rabbits aren’t equipped to survive outdoors long-term. Cars, predators, weather, and lack of proper food and shelter all put them at risk.

With help from neighbors and volunteers, we’ve started catching rabbits and treating them for parasites - they are so far all covered in ticks.

More to come…

💕 Friends!

Rabbits and other small animals thrive with a BFF. But they can also be very picky about who they choose to bond with. One of the biggest worries we hear from adopters is, “What if my bunny never finds a friend?”

Well… we just happen to have a few bonded pairs already waiting for homes, complete with a built-in best friend. 💞

🐭 Tom & Jerry are super cool chinchillas with velvety coats and big personalities just waiting to blossom with the right family.

🐰 Thin Mint & Chocolate Chip are fun, playful Dutch brothers who have been waiting over a year for someone to finally pick them.

💎 Diamond & Opal are found friends. Both girls were discovered abandoned and alone, and found comfort in each other.

✨ Calvin & Karl are fun and curious chinchilla rabbit brothers with lots of personality and energy.

There’s something extra special about watching rescued animals find safety, comfort and friendship together. And now they’re hoping to find a family together, too 🏡

Read more about them on our adoption page or comment below. We’re always happy to answer questions about our adoptable pairs! 💕

Look who’s back! Pickles! 🐷🥒 If you can look at these pictures and not smile, I don’t even know what to tell you. She is such a sassy, social, confident little bundle of joy.
She’s been with her family the last few weeks and came back to hang out with us for a bit. She ran straight up and flopped for belly rubs when she arrived 😅 The timing was perfect for us to get a little shot of sunshine during some hard days 😍☀️

Our sweet Jasper passed over yesterday. Known for her amazing chin, her sassy attitude and her unmatched fighting spirit, she will live on in our hearts and our work forever.
She fought so hard for so long and her little body just couldn’t take any more. I always hate delivering sad news because I know so many of you are here because you need more hope and positivity in your life. Please know that even though it’s not the story we wanted to write for Jasper, the love, care and dignity we showed her still mattered just as much. Every life deserves kindness and Jasper felt all the love we could give her.
We are so grateful to the vet team who loved her along with us and did everything possible, not only to help her heal, but also to stay relaxed and comfortable. Her caretakers, especially Jess our animal care director worked around the clock to care for her. And all of you who checked on her, sent her special hay, shared your experiences and sent her love and healing. We thank you ❤️‍🩹 We will see you over the bridge Jasper 🌈

It’s been a minute since we’ve shared a Jasper update, but she needs all the good vibes more than ever.
She had started to improve, get her appetite back and X-rays showed her “sludge” had significantly decreased. But Friday morning we found her in pain and with a spiked fever. We rushed her back to the vet and she had IV antibiotics, fluids, pain meds and more tests. We’re still waiting on the culture results, but the working theory is sepsis or an infection that isn’t responding to her antibiotics. We’re trying another antibiotic and our senior volunteers are taking turns around the clock to keep her hydrated with subq fluids and make sure she has everything she needs. Realistically we know that a setback of this level is very hard for a rabbit to come back from. But she’s just come so far, we want to give her every fighting chance.
We are SO GRATEFUL to the team who has done everything possible to help Jasper get better.
