I love the before and after on the pin-drafter. It’s amazing how much change happens with just one pass.

Starting with dyed combed top, the fibers are drafted out, the colors begin to blend, and suddenly those colors have a whole new personality.

Same wool, same colors, just a whole different look.

One of those satisfying little transformations that never gets old.

Even after all these years of raising sheep and working in the mill, I still find beauty in something as simple as a wool fleece. The natural crimp, the texture, and all those little characteristics that make each fleece unique.

We spend so much time washing, carding, and spinning wool, turning it into something useful. But sometimes it’s nice to just stop and appreciate it for what it already is.

Pretty amazing what our sheep grow year after year, and what we get to do with it.

It’s been one of those weeks where raising sheep might actually be the easiest part of what we do. And that’s saying something!

Washing wool doesn’t have to be complicated!

We have washed a LOT of wool over the years, and while every fleece is a little different, our basic washing routine stays pretty much the same.

Hot water, Dirty Ewe Wool Scour, and a little patience.

Are you someone who enjoys washing wool, or is it a chore you would rather skip?

Some weeks in the mill are filled with beautiful wool coming off the machines. Other weeks? Not so much.

These past few weeks have been more about maintenance, adjustments, and a whole lot of trial and error than actual wool production.

Looking back at batches like this burgundy roving, when everything was running smoothly is a good reminder of the satisfying side of what we do.

Sometimes you have to spend a little time getting everything right before you can get back to making the good stuff.
