Let’s talk about wool break-
A wool break is a weak spot along the fiber where the wool can snap or separate more easily than it should.
It can happen when a sheep goes through a period of stress that temporarily interrupts normal wool growth such as an illness, lambing, poor nutrition, extreme weather, etc.
Sometimes it affects just a portion of the fleece. Sometimes it’s the entire fleece.
This fleece has several weak spots, so it will not be used for its intended purpose, which was yarn.
When skirting a fleece, it’s always important to check several areas of the fleece for weak spots, especially if you plan to sell the fleece or send it to a mill for processing.
