MN pheasant opener was a HOT one. Saturday the high topped out at 91 and Sunday upper 80’s. Both days with the heat we called it a day around lunch time. It was fun to get the boys out and clean the rust off so to say. We hunted with Steve and Ted, my fellow Small Munsterlander owners.
Super Happy with Harley this weekend. He had two beautiful staunch points on a couple of roosters (only got a shot at one of them, it was a layup and I missed). Felt terrible I didn’t reward him for his work. His third point ended being a hen, but it was really cool because Lovec came around saw him on point and backed him. Fun to see that happen.
The Ole Man VC Jager did what he does, got on a bird early in his run, it flushed, and Steve made a nice shot, with the bird landing about 20-25 yards into the cattails. We got a good mark on it and brought Jager in for the search of the downed bird. 1-2 minutes later Jager is standing next to me with his bird. This will be Jager’s 10 season, every bird he points and retrieves is a special memory.
We are also rolling with a new hunting vehicle this fall. This weekend was the trial run, before heading west next weekend.
