Friendly PSA: Canine Papilloma Virus 🐾

We wanted to give everyone a heads-up that we have seen cases of canine papilloma virus (dog warts) in daycare, so we ask that you please keep an eye on your pup over the next few weeks.

Canine papilloma virus is similar to cold sores or common warts in children. It spreads through normal dog-to-dog contact and shared environments. Even with thorough cleaning and sanitizing procedures, viruses like this can still spread because they are transmitted through direct contact, and dogs can be contagious before a wart is even noticeable.

Signs to watch for include small, cauliflower-like warts around the lips, mouth, nose, or eyes.

The good news is that:
-It is generally harmless in healthy dogs.
-Most cases resolve on their own as the immune system clears the virus.

If you notice any suspicious bumps or warts, please have your veterinarian examine them and let us know. If your dog is diagnosed with canine papilloma virus, we’ll ask that they stay home until your veterinarian confirms they are no longer contagious to help protect the rest of our daycare friends.
