Meet Kirk! 🐴❤️

Today we’re introducing you to Kirk, one of the familiar faces helping make every day at Big Red’s Barn a little brighter!

Kirk joined our team about 4–5 months ago, although working with animals is nothing new to him. He’s been ranching his entire life, so caring for animals and being around them has always been a big part of who he is.

🐴 What is your job here?
Kirk is primarily one of our ranch hands, but you’ll also find him helping with customer service and making sure our guests feel welcome. Around here, everyone wears a few different hats, and Kirk is always happy to lend a hand wherever he’s needed!

🦊 If Kirk could be any animal, he’d be…
A fox or coyote! 🦊

As a huge dog lover, Kirk says he’s naturally drawn to the clever, curious, and canine-like personalities of these animals.

❤️ What is his favorite part about working here?
The environment and the family atmosphere.

Kirk says the team treats him incredibly well and makes every day enjoyable. In fact, he enjoys being here so much that he actually misses the Barn when he has a day off!

🐾 What does he love most about the animals?
The amount of care and love that goes into each and every one of them.

Kirk has always believed that once you give an animal a name, they become family and that’s something we can definitely get behind. ❤️

✨ What does Kirk hope every visitor experiences?
His goal is simple: he wants everyone who walks through our doors to leave with a bigger smile than they came in with.

Whether it’s making someone laugh, helping a guest meet an animal for the first time, or simply making their day a little brighter, Kirk wants every person who visits to leave feeling happier than when they arrived.

🇺🇸 Outside of the Barn, Kirk is also a combat veteran and spends time caring for children with special needs. He has a particular soft spot for the veterans and kids who visit Big Red’s Barn and he loves seeing the excitement on their faces when they come through our doors. ❤️

We’re so grateful to have Kirk as part of our Big Red’s Barn family! 🐾❤️

👀 A NEW EXHIBIT IS COMING TO BIG RED’S BARN…

We’ve been working on something new and it’s almost time to bring it to life. 🤫

Here’s your first hint:
🌎 Its inhabitants come from a world VERY different from the animals you currently meet at the Barn.

No fur. No feathers. And definitely no hooves. 👀

And the best part? This is only the beginning. 👀

MEET LUCY! 🐹

Say hello to Lucy, our adorable black-tailed prairie dog! 🌾🥜

Lucy may be small, but she has a BIG personality! She absolutely loves her special treat… peanuts 🥜 !

When Lucy gets excited, you might hear her famous “WOO HOO!” 🎉 And if she’s REALLY feeling it, you better watch out for the zoomies! 💨She loves running around and showing off just how much energy she has!

And just to clear up any confusion… 😂 Lucy is NOT a miniature capybara! 🐹❌ She’s a prairie dog, and she’s perfectly happy being her own adorable little self!

🐾 Meet Carlito the Capybara! 🐾

Birthday: November 17th 2023
Age: 2 years old!

Have you met our sweet Carlito yet? ❤️ His journey to Big Red’s Barn wasn’t always an easy one. Carlito came to us from another zoo where he didn’t quite fit in with the herd. He even arrived with a stitched-up boo-boo on his neck.

Thankfully, those days are behind him! Now, Carlito has found something he loves even more than a capybara herd, his herd of humans! 🥰

You can have an encounter with Carlito here at Big Reds Barn! He loves his snacks, scratches, attention, and all the love our guests give him. And if you ask Carlito, he’s pretty irresistible! 😉

Come meet Carlito and see for yourself why this special boy has stolen so many hearts. 🐹❤️
