πŸ‚πŸŽƒ Fall Safety Tips for Your Pets! 🐾

Fall is in the air! We are celebrating with tasty sweets, fun decorations, and scented candles. But some seasonal favorites can pose hidden risks for our furry family members!

Help keep your pets safe this season by:
🍬 Keeping chocolate, candy, and wrappers out of reach - candy can be toxic!
✨ Storing glow sticks and Halloween makeup safely away from curious paws.
πŸ•―οΈ Keep candles, electrical cords, and decorations away from pet's reach.
🌽 Keeping corn cobs (and cooked bones) out of reach - can cause GI blockages!

A little extra care goes a long way in keeping fall fun for everyone! From our PAH family to yours, wishing you a happy and safe fall! 🍁🐢🐱

If your pet has ingested something potentially toxic: Contact Pet Poison Hotline at 855-886-7965 OR the ASPCA Pet Poison Line 888-426-4435 (a consultation fee may apply for these services).

🌎This World Rabies Day, we're reminded that protecting pets takes all of us, from pet owners and veterinarians to healthcare professionals and our communities.

Remember Old Yeller? Let his story remind us how far we've come and why prevention matters.

Rabies is preventable, but once symptoms develop, it is almost always fatal. Closer to home, our region has seen both human and wildlife rabies exposures in recent years, including tragic fatalities.

Keep your pet protected. Stay current on rabies vaccines, and remember you can always contact us with any questions.

Today, as we remember the heroes we lost on 9/11, we honor the courage, sacrifice, and service of those who continue to protect our communities every day. We are especially grateful for our local first responders and their dedicated K-9 partners who work tirelessly to keep us safe.

Did you know our community is supported by incredible volunteer search-and-rescue teams and the outstanding Kootenai County Sheriff's K-9 Unit? Their commitment makes a difference when it matters most.

Join us in taking a moment today to thank the men, women, and K-9s who serve with courage, dedication, and heart. We will never forget.

πŸŽ‘πŸ„ The Fair Is in the Air! πŸ–πŸ‘

JOY is ready to enjoy all the fun the North Idaho State Fair has to offer! From riding the Ferris wheel with her favorite four legged friends, to checking out the farm animals, there is fun for everyone!

Prairie Animal Hospital is proud to support our local 4-H youth! These young people put so much time, dedication, and heart into raising and caring for their animals. We love cheering them on, supporting their hard work, and encouraging the next generation to continue learning about animals and responsible animal care.

One of the things we love about the fair is the opportunity for kids and families to see, pet, and interact with farm animals while learning more about the animals and the hard work that goes into caring for them. Just remember, after visiting the animals, it is important to wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before eating or touching your face. πŸ§ΌπŸ‘ This simple step helps keep everyone healthy while enjoying all the fair has to offer!

🎟️ Are you heading to the North Idaho State Fair this year? Tell us what you're most excited to see, or drop a photo from the fair in the comments!

πŸ¦‡πŸš¨ RABIES ALERT FOR NORTH IDAHO PET OWNERS

Two bats have recently tested positive for rabies in Spokane County, including one with suspected exposure to a domestic animal. The first was confirmed on July 24, 2026, marking the first rabid bat reported in Spokane County this year. A second positive bat was confirmed on August 4, with suspected exposure to a domestic animal.

While these cases are across the border, Spokane is just a short drive from North Idaho, and our communities share the same wildlife. This is an important reminder for pet owners throughout Kootenai County and the surrounding area.

πŸ¦‡Bats are often misunderstood. They aren't the frightening, blood sucking creatures shown in movies! Most bats in Idaho eat large quantities of insects like moths, flies, and mosquitoes and play an important role in our ecosystem. The goal isn't to fear bats. It's to respect them and know what to do when we encounter them.

If you or your pet have direct contact with a bat or other potentially rabid wildlife:
🚫 Do not handle the animal with your bare hands.
πŸ“ž Contact your veterinarian and local Public Health District for guidance.
πŸ¦‡ Keep your pet away from the bat and prevent further contact.
πŸ’‰ Make sure your pet's rabies vaccination is current.
⚠️ Bat bites can be extremely small and may not be obvious.

Rabies is fatal once clinical signs develop, so prevention and prompt action after a potential exposure are extremely important.

With rabid bats recently confirmed just across the border, now is a great time to check your pet's rabies vaccination status!

Respect bats. Protect your pets. Protect our community.❀️🐾
Remember: Rabies doesn't stop at the state line. πŸ¦‡

⚑ Hail Zeus! King of Olympus and Champion Ball Chaser!

Zeus's favorite toy? A ball. ⚾ His favorite activities? Chasing a ball, holding a ball, staring at a ball, or swimming and chasing water (sometimes with a ball). Basically, if there’s a ball or water involved, Zeus is ALL IN! In fact, Zeus loves water so much that his parents have to keep him on a leash around it, or he’ll happily swim off to infinity chasing his own water splashes!

Zeus doesn't have a favorite treat. He will eat aaaalmost anything... except for broccoli πŸ₯¦

He absolutely loves meeting new people and animals of all kinds. And while he may look a little intimidating at first, don’t let that fool you. Zeus is a **big teddy bear** at heart. This sweet boy has a few nicknames ("Zeus-y Bear" or "Fat Head"), but they all fit this lovable goofball perfectly! ❀🐾
