South Florida's warm, humid climate creates a perfect environment for mosquitoes, and mosquitoes are the primary vehicle for heartworm transmission in both dogs and cats. The frightening reality is that heartworm disease can develop silently for months before any symptoms appear. By the time a cough, fatigue, or difficulty breathing becomes noticeable, the parasites may have already done significant damage to the heart and lungs.

At Garbizo Animal Clinic, we offer both heartworm testing and treatment for pets who have been diagnosed. Testing is quick and straightforward, and for those who need treatment, our team develops a carefully supervised protocol to eliminate the parasites as safely as possible. We also discuss prevention strategies to ensure your pet is protected year-round, because in South Florida, heartworm is a year-round risk. 🦟❤️

A test today could mean a lifetime of protection tomorrow.

📞 Call (954) 974-1136 or visit www.garbizoanimalclinic.com to schedule your pet's heartworm test today.

You know the moment. They tear through the living room, leap onto the couch, sprint into the yard, and back again, eyes wild, tail tucked, completely unstoppable. Veterinary behaviorists call this Frenetic Random Activity Periods, or FRAPs. The rest of us just call them the zoomies, and they're entirely normal. 🐕💨

Zoomies are usually a healthy release of pent-up energy or excitement, often happening after a bath, before bed, or during play. Most pups grow out of the most extreme zoomies with age. As long as they have safe space to run and aren't injuring themselves, let them go for it.

Pure joy at full speed. Try not to smile. 😊

📞 If zoomies are paired with anxiety or destructive behavior, talk to your vet.

They don't care if you had a bad day. They don't care what you wear, how much you make, or what you said in your last meeting. They just want to be near you. That's the kind of friendship that's hard to find anywhere else, and impossible to fake. 🐶🐱

This National Best Friends Day, take a minute to thank yours. Maybe an extra-long belly rub. Maybe their favorite treat. Maybe just sitting next to them on the floor with your phone face-down. They've earned it.

Best friends come in all species. Ours just happens to have fur. 🤍

Tag your best friend in the comments, let's see them!

What if there was a way to help your pet heal faster, feel less pain, and improve their mobility, all without medication or surgery? For many pet parents, that sounds almost too good to be true. But cold laser therapy is a well-established, non-invasive treatment that's helping pets across the country feel and move better, and it's available right here at Garbizo Animal Clinic.

Our cold laser therapy sessions use targeted light energy to stimulate healing at the cellular level, reduce inflammation, ease chronic pain, and accelerate tissue repair. It's a gentle, painless treatment that many pets actually find relaxing. Whether your pet is recovering from surgery, managing arthritis, dealing with a soft tissue injury, or living with chronic discomfort, cold laser therapy can be a powerful addition to their care plan. ✨

Sometimes the most powerful healing is the kind you can't even feel happening.

📞 Call (954) 974-1136 or visit www.garbizoanimalclinic.com to find out if cold laser therapy is right for your pet.

It's a common misconception that all dogs are natural swimmers. Many breeds, especially bulldogs, pugs, and dachshunds, struggle in water. Even strong swimmers can panic, tire out, or fall in unexpectedly. Pool drownings are one of the most common summer pet emergencies, and most happen when no one is watching. 🏊‍♀️

Keep pools fenced, install easy exit points like ramps, and never leave pets unsupervised near water. For boating or open water, use a dog life jacket, even for confident swimmers. After swimming, rinse off chlorine and salt, clean and dry their ears thoroughly to prevent infections, and provide fresh drinking water (lake and pool water can make them sick).

Water can be fun, but it always deserves respect.

Hi everyone,

I'm Leonardo Shadow Toothless Dowd, but you can call me Leo for short. I'm a one-year-old Maine C**n. I live at home with my older sister Coco, a Shiba-Inu. We have a lot of fun playing around together! I love sleeping most of the day and trying to wake up Mom and Dad at night...not sure why they want to sleep when I'm awake?? I'm told I’m pretty feisty, whatever that means, but I do like to chase my Dad around the house (he chases me too!). It's so fun to creep around the corners and try to scare the humans that live there. As long as they keep feeding me the good stuff, I'll keep entertaining them, I guess LOL!

Spring cleaning for your pet can start with their teeth. Ready to smile? 😁

Dental disease often sneaks up. Bad breath, tartar, red gums, or changes in eating can mean pain that pets hide well. Early checks catch trouble before it gets painful. 🐶🐱

At-home brushing is gold, but not the only tool. Dental diets, chews, and regular exams help keep plaque from becoming tartar. Some pets need professional cleaning and dental radiographs to see below the gumline. 🪥📸

Untreated mouth infections can affect the heart, kidneys, and liver. That makes dental care a true preventive health measure, not just cosmetic. We can create a plan that fits your pet’s age and needs. 🩺

Questions about brushing, dental products, or scheduling a cleaning? Book online or call Garbizo Animal Clinic. Let’s keep Coconut Creek pets comfortable and happy. https://garbizo.use2.ezyvet.com/external/portal/main/login (en) | (954) 974-1136

Thinking about spaying or neutering your new puppy or adult cat this spring?

Spay and neuter procedures reduce unwanted litters, lower certain cancer risks, and can improve behavior. Timing in spring gives pets time to recover before summer activities.

Our surgical team provides safe anesthesia protocols and compassionate post operative care for every patient.

We’re Bilbo and Gimli, and we’re excited to be chosen as Pet(s) of the Month!

We’re pugs, so we prefer to spend most of our day napping, especially if we can get extra snuggles with our parents! When we’re not napping, we like to chase each other around and steal each other’s toys.

We love saying hi to everyone in the neighborhood on our walkies and getting extra attention and pets. Squirrel chasing is also a highlight of our walks (of course)
But more than anything, we love treats!

Thanks to everyone at Garbizo Animal Clinic for taking such good care of us! (And especially for the mini milk bones!)
