Hi everyone. I rarely make personal posts, and this one has been weighing on me for the past few days (circling back to this, which has turned into two weeks).
Many of our followers may know and have been privately following the passing of my former husband, Charlie, who owned and managed Maui Meadow Farm. Charlie passed away suddenly on July 5. Charlie and I were together for 15 years, and while we had gone our separate ways a few years ago, we kept in contact daily while raising our son, who turned 8 this year. At times, we helped each other out with the horses.
In an unrelated circumstance, the farm's manager, Sean, also passed away within hours of Charlie. The phone call I received that morning regarding both men shook me to my core and was unfathomable.
Charlie and I started rehoming Thoroughbreds in 2012. While we went our separate ways, he continued to welcome horses in his barn to rehabilitate and rehome after they retired from racing under Lyman Thoroughbreds, while I continued under TRRAC.
Recently, we were asked to take the remaining horses who were in his rehoming program from Maui Meadow and transfer them to TRRAC to continue to find them safe landings. In total, TRRAC has taken on 6 horses from Maui Meadow, and a 7th horse was also transferred, Charlie’s personal horse, Charger.
These horses are all in various stages of letdown. Some have exited rehabilitation, some have been restarted, and some are simply on turnout. Sadly, most of the horses were previously misrepresented by individuals at the farm on social media with wrong heights and athletic abilities. We have professionally and medically evaluated all the horses that transferred to TRRAC for temperament, proper heights, and the types of careers they will be comfortable with (we have several show types!) All are sound and have bright futures ahead of them.
On Saturday, our son and I picked up the last 3 horses from his father’s farm. In addition to the 6 total, he also picked up his father's horse, Charger, who Charlie competed at the 2021 Thoroughbred Makeover, making a total of 7 horses to enter TRRAC.
Right now, we are asking for home offers for the horses (exception to Charger, whom our son is keeping). If you are able to help, we are in need of more grooming supplies, fly spray, halters (breakaway or full, leather), and donations towards general care. Today, we had the vet out for one of the horses for X-rays.

I want to thank our local horse community for their support and kindness towards our son and the horses that we are helping. From volunteers to donations, we are so grateful for your support during this difficult time. More information will be available in the comments. Please feel free to reach out to us if you're able to help or offer any of the horses a home. I personally have been navigating life, raising our son after this tragedy. It is the most devastating thing to tell a child they have lost a parent. I never imagined in my life I would have to do such a thing. In addition, I had to inform him that the farm manager, who lived on the farm and was his friend, was also gone. In a blink of an eye, our son’s life changed forever.
