This is Violet and she doesn't like to share food with her dog siblings! I find management is easiest in situations like this. Yes, there are things we could do to attempt to make her feel better and more secure. However, we don't know how long it will take to change those feelings, or how much they will actually change, and when safety is an isssue management will always come first. Management is things like gates, crates, leashes, etc. Mom and Dad are already doing a great job, but we are going to be sure to come up with a strict mealtime routine to keep everyone safe ðŸĐĩ

I haven't been feeling well the past week, which means the dogs have not gotten as much as attention as usual.... and it shows (extra barking, extra wrestling, antsy, etc.)! There are times where us humans cannot meet their needs which can be tough on everyone involved. Instead of putting their typical breakfast in their normal bowls this morning, I put them in slow feeders! This took them a good 20 minutes to finish. I'm a big fan of having dogs work for their food because eating is an activity they have to do anyways, so if they can burn a little extra energy during breakfast, great! I usually have some of these prepped in the freezer, but not at the moment. A frozen slow feeder bowl probably lasts them a good 45 minutes ðŸĐĩ Remember to keep things interesting for them when you can!

Things I did to prepare Ryder for the storm this afternoon/evening! We went on a walk, he got extra medication, and they got to eat lunch by means of a Pupsicle! The sniffing during a walk is mentally draining as well as the licking of the Pupsicle (which can also be relaxing!). They also got out physical energy by means of walking 😉 I also made sure his safe spot (under the bed) is clear of toys, closed the room darkening curtains, and turned on the tv so he has his little 'cave' if he prefers. We don't always get a chance to prep like this, but happy we were able to today 💜 Be sure to stay safe everyone!

I'm still here! I haven't posted much lately 🙄 Between it being kitten season (fosters), running my business (training, responding to emails, follow up emails, responding to texts/phone calls/messages, scheduling appointments, etc.), petsits, clinic work, not feeling well, staying on top of my own animals and making sure I attempt to eat at some point in the day (plus all of the other normal things I am supposed to do), it's been a bit chaotic! ðŸĪŠ I am doing my best to catch up on things though! If you haven't heard from me and you were supposed to, please always reach out. I'm always here to help, but sometimes I just forget! I included pictures of some of my cuties as well as the adorable fosters so you have something cute to see ðŸĨ° Thank you everyone for your patience and support, I really appreciate it more than you know 💜

Meet Houston! Houston is a very happy, smart boy, and available for adoption through Creekside Animal Rescue Inc! I have been working with him some when I visit The Dog Lounge, and he picks up on things quickly. This is our first attempt at muzzle training, but you can see by the end he was understanding and having a lot of fun (whole session lasted maybe 7 minutes). He does still need some work with polite greetings, but I love his enthusiasm ðŸĪ­ I'm always excited when I get to see this boy 💜

Remi is such a great girl! This was NOT how she greeted me the first time I met her ðŸĪĢ I'm pretty sure I had bruises from her jumping and clawing me ðŸŦĢ But look at what consistency, patience and practice can do! Most humans think they need to punish jumping, but I don't. If you can achieve the same results without punishment while building a stronger bond/trust with that dog, that sounds like a win to me! ðŸĪ·â€â™€ïļ
I do also know that every dog is different (they don't all jump for the same reason) and requires different things to be successful. However, the only 'punishment' that I *might* use (rarely) would be removing a dog from a situation. But, let's be honest, they probably weren't set up for success in those instances anyways!

This is Bexley! Bexley has big feelings! I am helping get out some of his energy while some things are out of whack at home 💜 The first time I came over, I wasn't prepared for his enthusiasm ðŸĪĢ After that first time, I decided to bring a bone when I enter! This gives him something to focus on that I can hold down low and something to help with his oral fixation as well. Did he still end up jumping? Yes, but it was minimal compared to before! Is this technically training? No, but it is something to help while we are in the process of training. For most dogs, ignoring jumping can be super helpful. However, Bexley is not one of those dogs! So we shifted and gave him another task to do 😉

This is what reinforcing automatic check-ins looks like (what I posted about yesterday)! Remi is an adolescent girl who is easily distracted by things (which is typical for her age). I want to teach her NOW that looking at me is always a good option regardless of what is going on in the environment around her. Every time she looks at me I mark with a 'yes' and reinforce her back next to me. This means she will likely continue the behavior since dogs are creatures of opportunity 😉 I have walked this girl only a handful of times, but we started this from day 1 so she has a good concept so far, but you can see towards the end still gets 'stuck' with distractions (people on the beach). She is able to be called away fairly easily though 👏 Great job Remi! 💜
